Re: Will high GPU prices kill off PC gaming?

I bet you the dirty console peasants think so. More seriously, no. What do you suppose the average upgrade cycle is? I would imagine it's at least a year if not closer to two or three. How long has this latest mining craze lasted? A few months? Most people won't even be looking until it's over anyw...

Re: Will high GPU prices kill off PC gaming?

Was NVidia making obscene amounts of money when graphics cards were much more reasonably priced? Yes. Therefore, GPU makers and graphics card assemblers could scale up production until supply and demand are again in balance at that price point and make even more total profit. What's stopping that i...

Will high GPU prices kill off PC gaming?

Now I'm and now wondering with the outrageous prices of GPUs now if that will end up killing off or doing some major damage to PC gaming? I mean I would I would be pissed off if I couldn't play new games at 2560x1600 considering how much I paid for my display or if I would have to pay an arm and leg...

Re: Dumb idea/thought experiment

HBM's performance isn't ideal for CPU-side use. If the workload is all about sequential bandwidth, it's great, but if you've got more random access patterns, it's garbage. I disagree with this statement. A very slight increase in memory latency (on the order of 15% or so, worst case) isn't enough t...

So is there anything that folks who are not miners can do to hasten or even start a mining crash? I really like to buy a 1070 without paying an arm and leg for it.

Ah, that's probably because they're palindromes.

It's a good thing that the forum is text-based so you can easily tell palindromes apart.

Re: Dumb idea/thought experiment

For moment I'll say the second one. It would be too expensive and a lot of folks won't like the idea of being limited to 16GB of memory anyway. I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of APU users wouldn't feel constrained by 16GB. I think you are right, but still, not being to upgrade the me...

Re: Holy Mining Crash Batman

So, TR needs to do an article about how to select a used RX-480 or RX-580. What problems to look for, or maybe why its not wise to buy one that has been used for bitcoin mining. That's an area that TR would likely want to stay away from. Buying used is always a calculated risk on behalf of the buye...

Bauxite, you have a good point. Most of that 3TB I care about is probably replaceable at some level of pain. The issue for me is that my pain threshold for re-downloading (assuming it's all still available) is pretty low. You have 3TB of stuff? I thought I had a lot with half a TB of data plus almo...

Nothing new in the World. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Gold_Rush I will need to read the Wikipedia entry, but I've heard that farmers made lots of money due to the high demand and prices of food at the time. They even made more then the folks providing mining equipment did.

Quite honestly, I think better than 95% of Amazon shoppers don't notice/realize/understand when they're buying an item sold by a 3rd party.
