Re: Xbox One X

I own GoW4 on xbone but not Win store. How is that possible if it’s play anywhere? You're askin the wrong guy. I only bought mine once and have both. You might be looking at the wrong page in the Store (the seperate editions can trip you up on this and some other titles) or just need to check My Li...

Re: Xbox One X

Play Anywhere is *pretty* new. Not even Gears 4 supports it, even though it launched after the announcement...gotta get newer games, or games they retroactively added to the program (Killer Instinct). Lots of games you can't even buy and play everywhere in the first place. Just relatively recent on...

Re: Xbox One X

The nail in the coffin for my Xbox was that although cloud-save was a thing, I couldn't login to someone else's machine, install the game and carry on my campaign where I left off. Consoles are still tied to physical-media DRM like the bad old days of PC gaming (only 10 years ago, actually) You've ...

Re: Xbox One X

HDR is a competing standards issue, not a performance issue - games already store stuff for all the heavy stages in linear 16-bit floats, and it doesn't much matter from a performance perspective whether they map that down at the end to gamma-curved 8-bit ints, linear 10-bit ints, or something else...

Re: Xbox One X

And settings is a topic we've not yet begun to discuss. How many X1X games at 4K are matching settings to the PC version identically? Well, from the article I posted about Far Cry 5 we've got So what's the takeaway then? It should be clear at this point that Ubisoft has done a good job of maximisin...

Re: Xbox One X

This is definitely accurate, but the XB1X definitely uses some dynamic resolution wizardry to cope too. For instance, Witcher 3 has a "4K30" mode, which for the most part maintains 4K30 (like, actually 2160p30 locked) pretty well, and there is a "performance" mode that unlocks r...

Well, he's not satisfied with the idea that the system is capable of playing games at a 4K resolution thanks to software optimization and specialized rendering techniques. The CPU and GPU have to share that bandwidth.

CPUs are usually fine with far less bandwidth than what the difference is, so I'm not seeing a problem there.

And none of what you list as similar kit would ever be good for 4K gaming from anything I've seen.

Re: Xbox One X

Most spec discussions are tiring. I didn't even imply the thing beat high end PCs just that it's a much better machine than people seem to think (especially compared to the PS4P.) I love it, and I don't really expect to stop using it as my main machine before 2020. We'll see. The gaming PC market ri...

Re: Xbox One X

I think you have a short memory then :) Every time a new console comes out, it tends to have reasonable GPU specs compared to GPUs of the time. You also have to remember that 120Hz monitors are cheaper than 120Hz televisions You also have to remember that the RX480 was released 18 months before the...

Re: Xbox One X

If you look at the Steam hardware charts I suspect you'd see most PC gamers don't have better kit. Well, duh. It was true when this generation of consoles launched, too. In 2013, Steam's top graphics processor was the Ivy Bridge-era HD 4000 . The top discrete cards were the GTX 660 and Radeon 7850....

Re: Xbox One X

Let's not get hyperbolic. For this to even be remotely true of the X1X, it would have to be built with hardware that's beyond what's already available. And it's not; it's got a Radeon RX 580 grafted to an eight-core Jaguar CPU. With both the CPU and GPU having more memory bandwidth than a 1070, and...

Re: Xbox One X

This. The argument gets old because, as always, people with unlimited funds can build a PC that puts both consoles to shame. It's always been and will always be about the games you want to play. If they're on a given platform, then that's the platform upon which you will play them. Or not play them...

Re: LG 27UD59P-B 4K, IPS, FreeSync on sale for $275

If they do that little gaming though spending that much on a GPU seems pointless with the rest of the system being that old. I'd still recommend a decent 1080p monitor over that 19" at least.

(With the added benefit that they can be super cheap these days.)

Re: Xbox One X

Does the XboneX have optical output? And I guess more importantly, does your receiver have optical input? That might be a way to weasel around those problems. Or if your TV/monitor and receiver support ARC you can go direct into the TV and output through the receiver. I do that with the PS4 Pro and...

I think a 4K Freesync mon with a system that can't even use 4K or Freesync is a bit of an odd choice unless you plan to get a GPU later.

We're getting lots of snow in Minnesota, but that's not exactly a rare phenomenon. Usually we don't get the snow and the wind at the same time though. Down near Roch we didn't really get much. Re: Game Stuttering With FPS Drops After Windows 10 Creators Update

It's been known? That sounds like BS to me. The overlays have always been a little problematic (in that they don't work consistently in some modern games), but I refuse to believe there's anything there that would cause stuttering in games especially given that it's typically open when overclocking...

MSI Afterburner is pretty much anti-crapware IMO. It serves its purpose with aplomb and bundles no junk. Am I missing something? It's one of the first things I install if I'm doing any GPU tweaking... It has been known to cause problems with games in major Windows 10 updates. I don't know which one...

If that was purely altruistic, then it wouldn't have AMDs name all over it. :P It's basically the same thing as giving stuff away to film crews hoping they'll use some of it in the movie. Marketing people don't look at these things as gifts. It's just money spent as part of their budget for promoti...
