Re: AMD Ryzen 5 or AMD FX?

Looks like the 1400 wins in benches, though I haven't checked all of them. The 1400 would be upgradable down the line as well and that's always good for a new build. Coming from an A88XM+A10-7850K myself I know it would bug the crap out of you to have a decent new machine that can't really be upgrad...

I got a gel mattress a few years back, one of the cheaper ones. Came from an old spring mattress and I love it. I'm sure I could've spent more but even so I didn't expect to love it.

Re: Shield K1 out of production?

No one is buying a Shield as a Switch substitute; Switch buyers (or oglers) want Nintendo software. I can only speak for me, but I've been eyeing several gaming tablets to get while I wait for the Switch software market to improve. So 'no one' is definitely inaccurate. (Though technically, I'm eyei...

I don't know, but it's NV. They're already past where you'd think they'd stop supporting it since they just released an Android 7 update, and it's likely they'll support it at least until they release a new tab IMO.

Unless battery life is actually a concern, it seems like a great device.

I really want to put LineageOS on my Moto E but I couldn't get a VM working on here as easy as it usually is, so heh. I'll have to do it on a different machine later.

Re: How secure is Android ecosystem for data & privacy security?

The Play Store (last I heard) still does let some stuff through, so you have to just be careful that what you wanted is from a reputable developer. But that's a normal safe computing practice anyway. I'm not sure I'd need an antivirus on an iphone on another note, but I won't use a droid without one.

Re: Surprise! Creator 10 Update Applied...

No complaints for me so far and I might even say this has been the 'best' major update in quite awhile, not so much for the features but that combined with no issues makes me say this. Certainly seems the most problem free here as well. Same amount of machines, though most of them sit unused. They ...

If the UEFI is set to use a specific output you might have to figure out which that is, or reset it.

Cortana still seems kind of wonky to use.

OneDrive is good. I'd like to use it for more, but my internets aren't THAT good yet.

Edge is really good now. I'm still using Chrome for literally one game, but I'd love go back to Edge. Firefox just seems kinda slow still.

s'about all I got.

Re: Shield K1 out of production?

It's pretty appalling how little Android tablets have improved since 2013, and in some regards have actually gotten worse. The Nexus 7 had a quad-core Krait CPU, with pretty powerful out-of-order cores. Most devices in a similar price range these days have crappy A7/A53 in-order cores. I just found...

All I can add is some Sculpt models seem to have issues. I don't know if it was the wireless or not, since my Bluetooth one seems better than my dongle one. I think with Dell AMD is pretty much cheap laptop bait, and mostly for 'professional' markets rather than consumer markets. I don't know about right now though. HP doesn't usually have a hell of a lot more, but they do nonetheless have more. Zen based APUs may well change the market, but it remains ...

Something I wondered about is if all 4 cores on a CCX package ever become L3 limited. I mean we are talking 8MB of L3 per CCX, which is very generous. But does the 3+3 setup for the 6c/12t parts like the 1600x afford those 3 cores any benefit from only having 3 cores instead of 4 to share that 8MB ...

Hmm. I've been pondering those for a long time but I'm invested in HDMI (even more so now with Atmos.)

It's too bad noone wants to make a new multichannel audio only connector. (Though I guess it looks like USB Audio 2.0 might work for that, I don't know much about that yet.)

Eh, I don't dig HDs either but SSHDs aren't bad (I just put a 2TB Firecuda in my box.) I'd go with a Firecuda instead of a normal HD. They can always add SSDs later, but SSHDs are a good option for the price. It accelerates what needs it and ignores what doesn't. As far as Vega it does sound nice bu...
