Re: HDR gaming

I think most TVs have fairly acceptable stock audio, so there's even less space used. It kinda depends what your definition of acceptable is. I didn't find them terrible on mine, but I had to have the audio much louder than I usually do to hear things clearly. I preferred having my headphones on. I...

Apparently NVs latest drivers fixed an issue with HDR that's pretty important https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/385.69/385.69-win10-win8-win7-desktop-release-notes.pdf - HDR TV/displays have distorted colors after changing the resolution from the Windows control panel [200335229] Another happy ...

Did you turn Storage Sense on at any point? It does clean up the download folder at times.

Re: Win10 strangeness...ideas?

Most likely going to format that drive and start over with a fresh install If you can hold off, the Fall Creators Update is due very soon. I have no idea how long it'll take to actually roll out though, but you can usually jump the line. I don't see any control panel stuff on mine either though, ce...

Re: QLED

I'd take oversaturation to what I get now. I suspect this Omen 32 is tuned to low blue light by default and it just looks off with some images and just kind of wrong in general, though it's not horrible. My TV looked amazing, if it wasn't for the 1440p30 and the shutting off and being hard to recove...

Not to knock Amazon / NewEgg / B&H (who is that?), but when I comes to cables I'd check Monoprice first. B&H is one of the coast camera places that branched out from there. The one that actually stocks a lot of other stuff and has a great website and selection. Since my Newegg and Amazon sh...

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

HDR and VRR have two completely different goals in mind. HDR10 and Dolby Vision are meant for the A/V-videophile market, while VRR is meant for the framerate-junkie gaming market. I doubt they are going to be converging anytime soon. They kinda already have. Windows 10, Xbox One S, X, PS4, and PS4 ...

The marquee point would be the question in the first post, not the title itself.

But whatever works I guess I got the answers I was interested in.

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

Games that do not integrate the AMD FreeSync 2 API, or use game engines that support it, will not be able to automatically switch to HDR mode, or use the FreeSync 2 transport. I should also mention that I doubt that'll cause any more problems than 'you have to click a button instead of have it turn...

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

So when you quote those specifications, you really should put some air quotes around that HDR. That pretty much covers at least 90% of HDR displays available from anything I've read...the tech isn't quite there yet. Personally, I'm OK with that. Seems like it'd just serve to be blinding on a monitor.

It's more the colors that concern me rather than brightness. I still can't believe how good even web or old RPG maker games looked on my TV (Leeco X43 dealie having issues with PC gaming.) I was waiting for OLED for a really long time but I doubt it'll be affordable anytime soon. HDR is pretty aweso...

C32HG70 ooh I could've asked you apparently. I just ordered a C32HG70, how is it? I noticed my HDR TV (which sucked as a monitor for various reasons) had so much better blues and general color accuracy than this Omen 32, but the TV only did 1440p@30 (or 4K@60) and flaked out when the vidcard switch...

Anyone have any experience with it? I just ordered a C32HG70 so I'm sure I will soon.

And yes, another Freesync display on a 1070 because if it was G-Sync it'd probably be $900-1100 instead of $600.

So...the whole "games you've already played, but portable" angle seems to be Nintendo's strongest selling point, and I just saw that DOOM (2016) and Wolfenstein II are coming to Switch. I'd expect a game like Skyrim to run fine, but if recent games like those play well enough, that might ...

Re: Keeping a Windows install (dual-boot) out of the way on a budget

Smaller is good, but what it really needs is to use one download stream instead of 30-50. At that stream count, an unscheduled 10 MB download will knock me out of a game just as surely as a 4 GB one. I can't really speak for or against any connection usage improvements, sadly. I'm as surprised as o...

Win7 doesn't make it a pain to choose when updates happen, and I've never seen it do this thing with 30-50 streams before. IME Android is worse than Win7, but not half as bad as Win10. It's worth mentioning that 1703 brings in a new update process that makes future updates a lot smaller. So yeah th...

Both of our PCs are pre-2009 and I'm not happy about the idea of updating my BIOS as that is a risky operation, I could easily brick the whole pc if something goes wrong. Windows will only install on an external USB device if the device is Windows to Go compliant. Even if the device is Windows to Go compliant, you still need Windows 10 Enterprise for this to work, other editions don't support it. Otherwise, you'll have to install it on an internal device https://doc...

At this point I'm not sure why they're even still talking about Infinity Fabric. It's interesting, and it makes sense why they used it.
