Re: VHS capture software

The site for the device you already own has a linked video for installing on Win 7. Have you tried this on Win 10 to see it it will work? If not, I've had good luck using capture devices from Hauppauge, but I have not done any analog capture in years. They presently have a device called "USB-Li...

Re: TR Wikipedia article flagged for deletion

Really, now that I realize it, auxy's approach was what managed to elicit the whole bit about how this nominator knew Scott! Either they thought better of their initial impulse, or despite their (false) protestations, they knew this was going to cost them credibility. So, despite my cautioning auxy...

Hopefully, those that make the ultimate decision at Wikipedia hew to their deletion process policy at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Introduction_to_deletion_process If you look at the points listed under "When to use the deletion process?", none of them appear to apply here. A p...

Re: TR Wikipedia article flagged for deletion

I glanced through the Wikipedia deletion policy, and I do not see how the entry for The Tech Report meets the criteria. Unfortunately, I do not already have an account on Wikipedia, and it sounds like registering now to comment on the deletion request would be counterproductive.

Re: Kempner Rice Diet

This study shows that Diabetes is a direct result of fat build-up in the pancreas. Since fat intake is minimized in the Rice diet, the body has no choice but to start stripping away the layers of fat accumulated inside the body, especially in and around internal organs such as the liver, the pancre...

Re: My 30 y/o fridge is clicking

Manufacturers take no account of high heat or moisture/humidity generated in appliances, and also take no steps to safeguard PCB boards against it. They could probably lower their logic board failure rates by 90% for no more than a $5 increase on the BOM, but have no interest in doing so. Interesti...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

The financial case for a lease also depends on the financing deal you can get. Before I bought out the vehicle I am still driving, I leased it for 3 years. When I leased it, there was a 0% interest deal, so I did not pay any interest during those first 3 years. Also, as someone else pointed out, you...

Re: Windows 7 and 10 - sharing folders

After Homegroups was removed from Windows 10, I had issues with my file shares. I think to fix it, I up had to set the service "Function Discovery Resource Publication" to start automatically. However, at this point, I am not positive that this is what actually fixed it. (I remember I had ...

Re: Disk encryption: discrete TPM vs AMD fTPM

I encrypt hard drives on home machines (with the exception of DVR video drives) just in case we were robbed so that the robber (or associates) couldn't simply pop out the hard drive and easily look through files. I would not worry about what type of TPM is being used, as I doubt that for this scenar...

I flipped over my laptop yesterday and realized that I can change the HDD and switch to a SSD. Would it be worth the time and investment? I would still need to keep a HDD connected at all times. I produce music occassionally and the samples alone are about 300GB+ It should provide a noticeable perf...

Re: A good Wireless Router under $100?

You trade some simplicity for general reliability and configuration options ... and also potentially better coverage, depending on your particular house layout. My biggest advantage of going with a router + wireless access point instead of a wireless router is that I was able to put the router in t...

I have been using Webroot for quite a while. It is not resource intensive, and monitors for bad behavior instead of just for file signatures. The price is pretty good too; I just bought a 3-license pack from Amazon for ~$20 to use for 2019.

If you boot into the BIOS setup, does it reboot after a few minutes like it does when you boot into Windows? Doing this may help determine if it's a hardware issue or a Windows issue.

Do you have the 6 or 8-pin PCIe power connector from the PSU plugged into the GTX 1060? I ask because your other card would not need this, so it would be easy to overlook.

I dunno, a loss of FPS by moving the mouse tells me that we might be looking in all the wrong places. A few months back, I tried switching to a wireless keyboard with my primary computer, but I ...
