Re: Anyone else excited about Halo: MCC

i never managed to get into Halo. Played halo 1, found it incredibly repetitive. also, i prefer my FPSes with mouse and keyboard. honestly, do people find Halo really that good compared to PC FPS games, or was it just that popular because console FPSes were relatively crappy? I played a ton of Halo...

Re: Anyone else excited about Halo: MCC

I'm considering picking up a xbone just for this and the next Halo release in the future. I switched over to PS4 knowing that this was coming, but it is just so dang tempting!

Re: Will an overclocked 2500k bottleneck a 970?

I guess for me it was more of the case of "hey I'm going to start this post because I haven't been following the CPU scene for a while" which lead to research of the links posted in the OP. By the time I had it written up, I thought I had the answer but wanted to verify. Like the good Funk...

Re: Will an overclocked 2500k bottleneck a 970?

Thanks everybody! That is what I thought. The next step is finding one that has a waterblock that fits. My 670 currently has a universal swiftech MCW60-B on it and heatsinks on the memory. Some forums are reporting that the 670 reference blocks are fitting on the 970 out of the box, so hopefully my ...

Will an overclocked 2500k bottleneck a 970?

I'm currently running an overclocked i5-2500k @ 4.8ghz with an EVGA 670FTW card (which is essentially a 680). I see where the 970 pretty much blows my card out of the water and am itching to make the switch, but I have concerns about possibly bottlenecking my setup via the CPU. I know from the TR ar...

Re: World Of Warcraft

So many neat things coming down the pipe for the WoW world! I haven't played since 2008 when I was in a long distance relationship with my then-girlfriend now-wife. She said those blank phone calls with me were the closest she came to calling it quits! Not really an issue of priority (well, maybe a ...

Re: "Repurposing" external hard drives

I recently repurposed a 3tb seagate drive from a USB3.0 enclosure into my FreeNAS setup. I even went as far as dropping a WD Green 1.5tb drive with an expired warranty into the old enclosure. It works just fine this way for occasional backups, but I don't think I'll be using this external drive for ...

Re: How should I backup remote family PC's to my home server

The main problem is making a connection between your parent's network and your network. I'm assuming they are two physically separate areas. I may have implied it but didn't specifically mention it. Yes, these are on two different physical networks. This can be worked around by setting up some sort...

How should I backup remote family PC's to my home server?

I am in the process of setting up a FreeNAS server (more like acquiring the drives for the server at this point). I will a raidz2 setup with 8tb of available space striped across 4x2tb + 2x2tb parity. This will serve my home backup and media sharing needs well, but I would like to extend the purpose...

Dear Diary, Today was the day that it finally happened! Although our interactions were brief, she quickly responded to my ping w...

Need suggestions for separate LAN on same modem

Here is my scenario: I have a game room separated from my house by about 50-75 feet. The path is clear from any trees or obstructions. I would like to extend my internet connection out to the game room either wirelessly or wired, but I would like it to be it's own LAN. My current setup is this: LAN1...

Re: Cleaning hardware with vacuum could damage parts??

I prefer to use my shopvac on the blower setting from a distance. Compressed air doesn't have enough umph for me. It just swirls the dust around the bottom of the case.

Now on my radiator for my main PC I do use compressed air.

That has indeed been the issue in the past. The AV company that installed the setup uses DVI to ethernet adapters and back to DVI at the screens. The longest run is probably 100 ft or so. Of course when they look at it, NEC says it is the adapters and the adapter company says it is NEC. I am more lo...
