Re: Enter TR's Dear Diary contest here

Today I was shocked. Not due to a power system anomaly - in fact the power system has been quite clean despite the removal of the UPS several months ago. I detected a new USB device, pretty ordinary fare usually. Sometimes there is a USB soundcard that I see briefly, but more often it is just a 32GB...

Re: n00b help required: Video capture from HDMI input

I use a card similar to this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100098 for capture, but my card doesn't support 1080p, where this card does. There is also this card that has built-in hardware accelerated encoding: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100100 I...

video editing

I've set up my PC to capture a lot of gameplay video using Fraps but now I have a bunch of raw uncompressed video files ranging in lengths from 5s, 30s, to several minutes. About 20-30minutes of gameplay is about 17GB. video editing is entirely foreign to me so I'm looking for some tips on what soft...

Re: HTPC - 4 Tuners - HDD Bandwidth an issue?

Thanks for the reply! The HTPC is running Win7 Home Premium. It is an old Athlon 64 x2 4600+ with 2G RAM. The tuner cards have dual-built in hardware encoders as well, so the CPU should be OK. It definately isn't often that I need to record more than 2 shows.. but it has happened several times. Hock...

HTPC - 4 Tuners - HDD Bandwidth an issue?

I have my HTPC set up with a Hauppage 2250 tuner card which has been excellent. It has 2 analog/ClearQAM tuners and it has been pretty great to use so far. I plan to add another 2250 tuner, (so 4 possible tuners total) and I and wondering if people think I am likely to max out my HDD write speed. Th...

Re: The types of Trolls.

I think that the term "forum trolling" comes from the fishing definition... "Trolling is a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water."

Trolling properly is all about getting other people to over react imo. :)

Re: Avatar plot Fail - I love this!

I dunno.... I have seen the movie twice in 3D, once in IMAX and it moved me, I loved it. No, the story is not original. So what? I think most of the people ripping on Avatar for its story just like to think of themselves as superior. It's to bad really, you are missing an amazing movie, if you only...

Wow, a plot that is similar to other plots! Weird, you would think they would be entirely different! I mean what human would replicate a plot made by a human? That's INSANE! /sarcasm You all do realize that eventually all stories will replicate each other simply because we are all human, rig...

You should talk up how your anticipation for the game, and invite her to go with you to pick it up when it is released. Bonus points imo. Small gestures.

Re: Over rated movies

Well, maybe I had more outside context going in, or maybe you're just **** at mysteries, but it seemed pretty obvious that time travel was key to the plot. And given that, most of the things fall pretty well into place once the end comes and he goes back in time and lies in bed as the airplane engi...

W7 Media Center issue - color depth

I noticed that my Media Center display on my TV looks awful. When I tab out, and on the monitor I view/change the settings for the TV, the color depth is already set to 32bit, but when I tab back in to Media Center, it reloads itself as full-screen and gets all ugly. Back to 16bit color depth or low...

While I'm no great fan of Batman,Heath Ledger's truly disturbing portrayal of the Joker was a real privilege to watch. I still don't see it. I would have prefered to watch a monkey in a clown suit play the Joker. He ruined the character for me. Just....bad. Why did *slurp* he keep *slurp* licking h...

Re: Over rated movies

I'm somewhat split on Inglourious Basterds because it's hard to call it overrated if it is universally lampooned in Europe. But the allegory of the Jewish filmmaker assassinating Hitler is probably the most accurate critique of World War II movies around. The Allies may have beat the Nazis, but Hol...

Re: Over rated movies

[quote="MaxTheLimit" As for Inglorious Basterds, I'm not going to defend the movie as a whole, but it really didn't suggest that killing Hitler alone would end the war. Almost all the major players in the Nazi regime were the target. You also can't really say that the movie was about one s...

I had a Athlon 64 4600+ (socket 939) with 2GB of RAM. I upgraded from SLI-7900 GTs to a Radeon 4890 and I enjoyed a performance improvement. Mostly I was able to increase my resolution without harming my FPS. (I was just wating to upgrade the rest of the system - started with just the 4890 built eve...
