Re: Acer 4830t-6642 troubles.

The one time I saw this same problem it was caused by Windows being installed with the hard drive in IDE/SATA mode and then the BIOS being switched to AHCI after the install. Changing the hard drive mode in the BIOS or a registry fix in safe mode fixed the issue without needing to reinstall. I doubt...

Re: Good 2.1 set?

The OP didn't list any requirements or intended uses for the speakers. So I posted some highly rated but cheap speakers.

How would you guys respond to a post that read "I need a computer. I want to spend $1000."?

Re: Good 2.1 set?

$200 for 2.1 computer speakers? Seems like overkill to me unless you have some very specific requirements.

Get yourself some of THESE and put the other $150 to better use.

Re: Why do most women not care about HD

Every time I go to my mom's house she is watching channel 8. I explain to her that channel 808 has the same shows but in HD. It just never penetrates her brain or something because she still just watches channel 8. She has a nice new 46" Sony lcd tv. I shouldn't care one way or another, but I d...

Re: Best Cheap Soundcard for my HTPC?

I have a Nvidia 9500 GS video card in the HTPC.

How do the ATI video cards pass the uncompressed sound to the receiver? Via HDMI? My receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs.

Alright. Thanks guys! The Xonar DG looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. $16.99 after MIR seems like a great deal too!

Best Cheap Soundcard for my HTPC?

I want to output surround sound from my HTPC to my Onkyo TX-SR602 receiver. The sound source will be AC3 avi or mkv files played through XBMC. The HTPC is just an older Dell Dimension with PCI and PCI-E 1x slots available. I figured any old soundcard with optical out would suffice, but it seems many...

Re: Replacement for cheap CD players?

Rip all their CDs to a cheap MP3 player like a Sansa Clip and get them any cheap set of computer speakers to output the sound to. Should be doable for $50.

Does it prompt you for a specific profile? If so, just create a blank one with the same name.

No biggie. I've done done similar things so many time I can't count.

It was pretty obvious by your quotes, from the article, that Hasbro lost and Asus won. 8)

Re: SSD Installation Question

If your drive has a driver disk, Win7 has an option to install the driver (like XP did) before it starts the actual install.

Or you can install Win7 in IDE mode and then enable AHCI later by making THIS registry change.

Re: How to Set New Drive as 'A:\'?

"A" and "B" are options on my Win7 system. There is an option in the BIOS called "Legacy Diskette A" which I have set to "Disabled". This is on an Asus motherboard. I tested it by plugging in a USB thumb drive and it allowed me to change the drive letter to &q...

I would definitely re-apply the thermal compound. Or at least try to spread it out evenly (if it is still pliable enough). You don't want gaps and bubbles between your heatsink and cpu.

Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar

When I first heard it, I thought it was a Bill Withers song from the 70s. :D

You're right. This 939 machine is running DDR memory. Not sure why I thought it was DDR2. But I DO have 4GB of DDR2 to use.

Re: Does this make any sense?

Do you feel constrained by your current system? I could imagine you might be hitting memory limits and paging to disk at times, particularly when video editing and possibly photoshop. If that's the case, and given where memory prices are -- and the ongoing commercial life of DDR3 -- you're better o...

Does this make any sense?

I have access to a free C2D E7500 cpu. I would need to buy a socket 775 motherboard and would probably choose to get DDR3 RAM. I am currently using a crappy socket 939 Athlon 64 3700+ with 3GB of DDR2. I don't foresee me having $400 anytime soon to do a Sandy Bridge (or Ivy) upgrade. So would throwi...
