RAID array destruction...

Greetings... A few months ago I bought a NEO-FIS2R motherboard with various other bits and pieces and made my latest box. Routing everything through the onboard Promise 20378 controller, I created two RAID arrays: a RAID 1 array from the SATA1 HD and the Master HD off the IDE cable; and a RAID 0 arr...

Some great games tonight guys and gals. The last one I played in was particularly exciting -- 5v5 with lots of big comebacks.

Emkubed, is the plan to switch to full version servers when the game comes out (theoretically tomorrow) or to wait a few days?

SATA RAID 1+0

Greetings... I'm looking at putting together a new system with an A64 3400+. I would like to get SATA RAID 1+0, but every motherboard that offers it seems to have the RAID controller hanging off the PCI bus (ala ABIT's MAX3 reviewed on the main page). Does anyone know of an A64 motherboard that has ...

First of all, anyone calling a product "CounterGay" automatically makes their opinion pretty worthless. Just like I would ignore someone who spouts about the "Itanic" I ignore someone who calls it "CounterGay". Hint: If you want to present your opinion, try not to look TOO obviously biased and fooli...

I don't know how much Morrowind follows in the steps of it's predecessors but I found the Daggerfall/Elder Scrolls game formula seriously boring. It's essentially Rogue on a grand scale. i.e. randomized quests, towns, people, etc.. To me most everything worthwhile in an RPG is a unique immerseful s...

IMHO, either way you shouldn't go for a 2 GHz pentium. If you decide to go single proc, buy an Athlon 2000+ system instead, get the same performance, and save some $$.

What will you use your computer for? I have 2x 1800+ Athlon MPs. Just before writing this, I was playing the War III Beta while ripping a CD to MP3 and playing Winamp, all with no slowdown anywhere. Smooth as butter. Is doing something like this worth the extra $300 or so bucks? It was for me. -Polare

Ripping CD's

Good morning all... I need to re-rip my collection of CDs to MP3s for my car MP3 player (since it's easier to re-rip everything than to manually edit all the .id3 tags to what they're supposed to be). Unfortunately the ripping program I used is no longer usable. Can someone point me to a ripping pro...

Sorry. I've gotta say that I don't think it could be done without too much being lost. Why not? Well, a couple of reasons. First, you've gotta work with the assumption that a movie with the quality of LOTR can _only_ be made if it expects to make a lot of money -- thus it must appeal to a mass marke...

Circlestrafing is your friend against bulls. The grenade launcher works particularly well against them, just be careful not to blow yourself up. Console RPGs vs PC RPGs

Who's on which side? My vote is definitely for PC RPGs. Console games are waaaaaay too linear for me. My favore RPG of all time is Darklands, from '91... the very definition of a non-linear RPG. There wasn't even a real 'ending' (although there were main quests to do, once you finished 'em you didn'...

Dualies?

Something that nobody's yet mentioned is getting a cheaper dual proc setup. I believe Photoshop is dual-proc capable (as is Q3, though that's not as big a gain). I'd say your best bet would be dual Athlon XPs --probably 1500+ or 1600+ for the best value right now -- on a Tyan board (rock-solid, thou...
