I concur with Waco and Krogoth - those temps are fine. (I'd love to have temps that good on my 8700k....) You don't have to worry about anything from a hardware safety and longevity perspective unless you're consistently getting into the high 90s or above. 60s and 70s on a 12 core chip are pretty da...
I'm using the Steelcase Gesture for home office / gaming, and have been using it for 4+ years now. Since I work from home now, I'm in it ~ 13 hours a day between work and gaming, and not having any issues with back pain, lumbar pain, or RSI. They are expensive, but ask yourself how much is your phys...
To be honest, I think you'd have better luck doing all the things you describe in Virtual Machines rather than a swappable boot SSD. 1) Install the main boot SSD in the motherboard (sidestepping all the issues you're having with external drive bays) 2) Create multiple VMs (one for each test configur...
When you say "unplugged everything" does that include the internal storage devices? You might be able to at least get into the BIOS with them removed -- if so, the problem could be one of the drives dying.
I presume you've tried reseating the SATA cables and trying a different SATA port? It would be odd for all of the ports to die at once when moving the system a short distance: if something happened to the hardware, it would likely only affect the connected ports. And really, if the failure correspon...
You might also want to run Crystal DiskInfo on all the drives to see if any SMART errors are showing up. This may identify if any drives are in trouble (and which ones).
And if you haven't yet, back up everything important. You may be on borrowed time with at least one disk.
The attraction of Z- series motherboards is they are overclockable, compared to the B- class motherboards that are not. So if you are going to spend the extra money to get a Z- class motherboard, you really should pair it with a K- series CPU chip that is also overclockable. So I wouldn't recommend ...
Another guide you might find useful from a former TR Gerbil: https://hothardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc-with-hothardwares-system-guide Unfortunately, the one component that would make the biggest difference as far as gaming performance goes is also the one that's pretty much unobtainium these days: ...
Windows 10 is good about detecting additional displays and configuring them. Since you have a 1440 and 1080 display, you may have to double check the resolution of each -- in some cases I have seen Windows set the resolutions of both monitors to one that both can run (which would be 1080 in your cas...
That is correct. The FX series of processors were pretty underwhelming. Any Intel processor for Sandy Bridge on didn't have real competition until RyZen came out.
Today of course it has largely flipped and the RyZen 5000 series are ahead of everything Intel has.
CPU could certainly be part of it, but for initial launch the most likely culprit would be storage speed (SSD or HDD depending on which you are using). If you are working with larger images than you used to, another contributor could be the amount of RAM you have -- for example, if you used to edit ...
Intel can lose their lead in server just like IBM did -- but also just like IBM, if they do lose it they will lose it sloooowwwwwlllyyyyy. Unless, Intel is able to make a significant turn-around soon. It'll happen sooner then you would expect. It isn't just AMD either. You got Apple and ARM trying ...
Looking at the benchmarks and nothing else, one must think that the 11700K is the 10700K with a couple optimisations and AVX-512. Are there ANY reasons to believe there's a new microarchitecture hiding within, until good guys with X-ray machines and small chainsaws pick the thing apart? On the thir...
Well, this isn't looking so wonderful.... Paradox has pulled development of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 from Hardsuit Labs, delayed the game indefinitely and cancelled new pre-orders. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-02-23-paradox-pulls-vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2-from-dev-...
IIRC, the real issue with RAMBUS was they submitted a pile of technology and got them adopted as standards on the Intel-based motherboards of the time, then just after those technologies were accepted they announced that they had patents on all of them and started charging an arm and a leg to use th...
The first thing I would do is revert any overclocking you're doing -- you mention that you tried to OC the GPU, so I would reset that and also put the CPU back to stock. If you're having stability issues, attempting even a mild OC is a bad idea. Do you have access to another PSU? (Borrow one from a ...
One concern for this type of setup would be the Windows Scheduler -- it would work, but it may not assign tasks to cores efficiently. When RyZen first came out, it wasn't getting as good of performance as it should because the Scheduler was tuned for Intel chips and to a lesser extent for FX chips. ...
Never, never pre-order. I've adopted this as a general principle for all software of any kind. The couple of times that I have pre-ordered a game, it never ended up being a game that I played for very long. I don't think I ended up playing any of them for more than about 12 hours. I've moved to the...
On which 3080 to try to get, the two review sites I find most credible these days (now that TR is basically a ghost town :( ) are Gamer's Nexus and Hardware Unboxed. Both of those gave good reviews to the Asus TUF model. Not to say that's the only good one out there, but it would be my first choice ...
In regards to your other questions: GPU : Which one is better between the 3080 and 6800XT may come down to which games and what resolution you play at. The 3080 seems to scale better at 4K, but at 1440p and lower the 6800XT is faster in a lot of the benchmarks I've seen. The 3080 so far does have a ...
You might be surprised at how little CPUs bottleneck GPUs, especially at higher resolutions where the GPU is the more heavily loaded part. My recommendation would be to only upgrade the monitor, GPU, and PSU first: the PSU you will need because the 3080 and 6800XT both require a lot more juice than ...
We can guarantee CDPR had NVidia hardware earlier, 'cus Turing. AFAIK any RT that worked on the 2000 series will work pretty much the same way for Ampere, just faster. So CDPR has been working on RT using NVidia for a couple of years, and using RDNA2 for maybe a few months.
