Re: Dell Hates AMD?

I can easily see OEMs push these for content creation, where a dGPU is a given and more cores can contribute to the bottom line (Lord knows I'd already be packing Ryzen if I were into videography), but that's still a very thin market overall.

Re: Dell Hates AMD?

Outside of conspiracy-theory shenanigans, I'd expect volume commitments to be an issue at Dell (and HP). Further, while AMD's Ryzen is a darling among enthusiasts, Dell sees it missing two important things next to a similarly priced i5/i7: it lacks integrated video, and it lacks ECC support so it ca...

Once you get past level 50, what are you supposed to be spending skill points on? My character has achieved rank 6 Lethal Infiltrator. My companions have all of their skills maxed out. What now? A total sum of nothing, for now. I'm on my second playthrough using NG+ (carry over levels and stuff), j...

Re: Your GPU Sucks: Unigine Superposition Released

That's the challenge- I'd accept it if it was an engine that was actually used, but at this point I'd prefer a benchmark such as this to come clothed in Unity, Unreal, or CryEngine, which do wind up in modern games. The main reason for this is that it is not especially difficult to build an engine t...

Re: Headphones on a Plane

The Audio-Technica ANC-9's are nice enough, I picked them up in Singapore for a flight back to DFW, but I'll note that the ear cups are very small and can be uncomfortable. For comfort, Bose all the way. The AT's might have better sound (and they do sound good), but that's not what I'd be concerned ...

Re: Poll: Ryzen RAM amounts

Of note: given that Ryzen is particularly sensitive to RAM speeds and is particularly difficult to stabilize at higher RAM speeds, 16GB in a 2x8GB configuration with fast DIMMs appears to be the 'optimum' high-performance configuration, and thus represents a limitation for those trying to squeeze pe...

Gotta be hoping that AMD will release a GPU capable of powering this display if one wants to take advantage of the higher refresh rate for gaming.

At the very least, they upgraded the cursing! I was floored when my FemRyder said "$#1t". So 75 hours, what percentage of completion? Oh, that ain't nothing. They go all out. Also, this was at 95% completion, with a stack of unfinished quests under 'Additional Tasks', mostly ones that you...

Alright, I beat it. Origin is reporting 75 hours, could probably shave quite a few off not running around stupidly during the preview as well as exploring systems with no landable planets. Overall, it felt like Mass Effect. I'll say that the ending didn't leave me begging for more like the first gam...

Re: i5-2500K Overclocking Paraphernalia

For my 2500k: I thought it was the CPU, because it started with BSDs under overclocking at boot, then would BSD under load when running at stock. I ran Prime95, and identified a core that would always fail. However, I shipped my motherboard to someone to try out, and they said that it was broke- so ...

Oh, if that were only it. I'm seeing reports of save-game bugs, where dying after a manual save locks the game in a loop and necessitates a game reload. And I ran into a great one- after a locked sequence (a story sequence where you cannot manually save, ever) I was sent back to the ship, where my b...

Re: i5-2500K Overclocking Paraphernalia

Be glad it works at all- depending on initial quality and level of abuse, 2500k CPUs seem to be dropping rapidly.

Lost mine last year- and have no complaints with the 6700k. Run the 2500k at whatever it will run until it dies.

Hell, I've taken advantage of the soldier's toughness on Normal and gone mostly melee when clearing out Kett and in MP. Re: Andromeda

Having 3 powers at your disposal instead of 8 seems very limiting, especially given how many are offered. This is one thing that's got me thinking, because I literally use just three powers: Concussive Shot, Overload, and Incinerate. That's it. I've dumped points into Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifl...

Re: 7700k, wow!

I think R7 1700 is a much better deal, it's both cheaper and future proof. In applications with HTT/SMT support, the 8-core R7 1700 blitzes i7 7700K completely. i7 7700K has 30% higher clock speeds, but I think core-count and more threads make the 1700 a much better deal. Also, you can overclock th...

Re: 7700k, wow!

It could be memory performance, but I'm mostly convinced that the lack of HT is just as big of a deal when it comes to 'feel'. This is something that you'd only be able to really quantify with frame-time analysis, and even that is difficult because many of your most demanding games are multiplayer.

Re: How long before Intel trounces AMD again?

Yeah, I've said in other places that Ryzen's performance doesn't quite add up when viewed through our traditional understanding of IPC, clockspeed, and multi-threading. What we can't say for certain is if that will change, and if so, by how much. (for what it's worth, I'm hoping it does, for the bet...

Re: How long before Intel trounces AMD again?

Gaming looks functional enough- if you're looking for grunt in other areas without giving up too much in gaming (depending on what you're coming from), RyZen looks like a solid release. And once overclocked, if you're into that, there's very little difference between the three parts released- the X ...

Cheaper, lower power at stock, typically uses less power than a 7700k if you overclock it to 4.5ghz. you do lose out on maximum clock for overclocking based on reviews i have read. So no so...
