Re: Annoying marketing trend

Geez this is bad- of the few that had reviews, the fan noise was the biggest complaint, second was the lame performance. NewEgg isn't as transparent as Amazon (not a huge sample taken) on a few laptops, however this is very shady marketing. Considering that AMD has a class action still in the courts...

Re: USB 3.0 not working on new board

You might also want to check for problems related to the KB2862330 patch- it disables USB ports. We've been dealing with this at work. 1. Uninstall update KB2862330. Go to control panel - programs and features - on the left hand side select "view installed updates".  In the top right hand ...

Re: What are you driving RIGHT NOW?

So I've been driving stick for like four years across two cars and I'm still not sure how to engine brake 'properly' - like should i immediately go down to lowest gear possible to slow myself (rev matching) or what?  Next gear down for stronger speed reduction, with enough proactive slowing, you ca...

Re: 16GB(15GB) usable RAM

The not booting is more likely to be a poor quality PS, than the memory- which, due to APU use, requires some local DRAM used for memory, so this is normal. The double power on is not good now and will get worse, possibly even burning out your board early or components early.

Re: Hard Disk Portion with slower writing speed

If you have a spare known good drive of comparable size, I would copy the data to the temp drive, and reformat (for Windows use diskpart, then a full format) the drive with performance issues. Running the vendors disk test tools (Seatools) WDDiags etc.) may help identify if there is any potential is...

Is there a way to get rid of that 102MB Primary/Active partition? Is that extra partition automatically created when W10 is installed? My W10 system does not have that partition maybe because the W10 was upgrade installed. That's your uEFI partition. If you get rid of it you will not boot. So I gat...

Re: Warning! Disasterous Windows Update.

Over here at Autotrader/KBB, we are a Dell shop, we have added a deny for the KB2862330 patch on all systems (via SCCM 2012/WSUS settings) due to it putting a sleeper hold on the USB bus controllers. Remoting into systems is how we manually apply this fix on an individual basis, usually external use...

Re: Troubleshooting New Drive Problem

I would suggest creating a Windows Emergency recovery disk, boot from it and run a repair from the ERD disk. It sounds like not rebooting after the formatting of the GPT drive didn't get registered into the boot manager, causing the startup to try and boot to the wrong (prioritizing the GPT) drive? ...

VW's have the same setup- pliable plugs that can get plugged up when debris builds up. Usually it's the sunroof plugs at the bottom of the doors that get stuffed up. Consider using a display port cable, VGA/HDMI will end up upscaling, IDK if dual DVI is available on your monitor, single DVI is also insufficient. I learned about these issues connecting a Dell U2711 monitor.

I would just skip that driver installer and get a fresh copy from Intel until I could get confirmation on the validity of the ones you have-or not care since you have newer drivers from Intel.

deleting it from disk management will make it available to extend your partition if you use partitioning software or use a (windows) sysprep file to extend the partition while installing the OS. Otherwise you are back to wiping all the partitions and reinstalling, or using tools like ghost or acroni...

Re: dead battery in mb

THe "checksum error" means the data saved in the CMOS is invalid, no battery, no saved data = checksum error; this is a standard error notification. A checksum error is not equal to a corrupt BIOS.

Re: dead battery in mb

Well, you will lose the clock, date info for sure, some settings. BIOS info isn't usually so important so turning of the system to replace the battery IS recommended. If you're daring* (want to see the world burn) don't power it off when you remove the battery. Consult your MB manual, find it online...

If you're up to it, I would disassemble an removable covers, (maybe go further using a model specific manual, youtube, or DIY guide) and use canned air to remove any dust bunny bits inside the laptop especially around the cooling apparatus. how much have the temps improved?

Re: laptop freezes+bsod (but only when games are played)

Good temps are 30-40, 50-60 are hot, over that is probably due to poor cooling. Dust, malfunctioning fans, and poor thermal transfer media (usually paste or tape) could be the reason. Intel's site would be a good reference to locate the normal operating temps for your chip. *Edit - absurdity mention...
