Re: 1080 ti upgrade

Nice, that's a Freesync combo, and the 75Hz of that monitor isn't going to worry about your old i7. I assume your 2600K is overclocked, in which case it's really not that bad, despite its age. I second that. I'm running a 3440x1440 60hz monitor on a 1080ti and an antiquated i7-3770 with 16 gigs and...

Re: Active Noise Cancelling headsets

You want a hell of a lot for no money. Why just not buy a pair of older closed over-ears instead? those tend to block out quite a bit of noise due to their design without the battery/NC higher pricetag that comes with the better pairs. Personally I got a Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2.0 and I honest...

Sorry, I was referring to your own speakers. The Rokkit's indeed could go lower and higher.

Re: Soundbar vs. speakers

2dB roll off down to 35Hz and up to 35kHz).   Not a bad idea, actually. Near field speakers tend to do well in smaller sized rooms.  Those numbers are a tad optimistic, however. They probably roll off at about 50Hz, considering their size (Their own website claims 56Hz - 20kHz). Which is still pret...

Re: Soundbar vs. speakers

Two bookshelves + subwoofer will probably sound best. Twin floorstanders is also an option, although bass wise they often underperform compared to the above combo for anything home theatre related. You'll need a budget multichannel receiver as well, connecting all of that together. Money well spent,...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided benchmarked on 980 Ti, 1060/1080, Fury X, & RX 480

I'm running the game at a consisent @45fps on a 3440x1440 monitor on VERY HIGH, so I'd take these conclusions with a grain of salt.
One thing to leave off is MSAA. It really kills performance in this game.

Re: What's happening with monitors these days / in the futur

Basically depth seems enhanced because "objects" that are further in the background become a little more apparent (even though shadows and such increase further into the background) - you can see "deeper" into the scene as a result. (..or at least that's one of the effects that ...

Re: What's happening with monitors these days / in the futur

Oh here's another question: I've seen techs talking about 4:4:4, or like 4:4:2, but I have not clue what that means, and trying to google for it has been quite fruitless. I understand 8-bit and 10-bit color (256/1024 shades for each RGB respectively), but no clue how those relate to that 4:4:4 spec...

Re: What's happening with monitors these days / in the futur

I'm more interested in what issue he's having with scaling. I use a 28" 4K at work; OS X and Linux (KDE) both seem to do a decent job of scaling things up so that they're readable. And the fonts look soooo smooth... :D They actually offered me a larger 4K and I turned it down, because the moni...

Re: What's happening with monitors these days / in the futur

My problem with 4K screens is that in order for the resolution to be usable with 100% scaling, the panel needs to be huge. So huge in fact, I have to move my head in order to take it all in. So until software scaling becomes acceptable, and the screen size can be limited to +-30 inch in size while m...

Re: What's happening with monitors these days / in the futur

I strongly disagree. Two monitors were way too clunky. With this screen, I can have 3 programs opened side by side, without feeling caged in by screens. Plus the POV is very, very nice with most games. Widescreengaming without bezels. Project Cars, The Witcher 3, or a game like Civilization look soo...

21:9 is not a gimmick! I had dual screens for productivity reasons for as long as I can remember until my LG34something came along. IPS, doesn't look too "gamey" (because im not a teenager anymore). And ultrawidescreen gaming is a lot of fun. Those who dis it clearly haven't tried it. Coul...

Seriously, move all sound processing away from integrated cards. Like most people serious about sound, I just switched to an external receiver for all my audio needs, hooked up through HDMI. Sound is far cleaner that way, DD and DTS are natively supported without any hassle or compression (Yes I'm l...

You can probably mix and match memory. I did, with 2x4 gb Kingston and 2x4gb Corsair.
Usually it works like a charm, and if it doesn't, just swap the memory for something else.

If you live in Belgium, consider buying the parts or your whole system from http://www.tones.be. It's a very reputable store, with a good guarantee policy. Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

That makes perfect sense. I'm also glad to report that my speakers sound pretty much the same with or without the "SUB" enabled in the settings. There's a slightly wider sound field when changing Bass+LFE -out from "SUB" to "Front" in the receiver but that's it. So it a...

Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Hello Sluggo, You are right about the LFE, of course. But my setup is meant to play both movies as well as music. So the Mains are hooked up to the sub to provide smoother lowend below 55Hz and the other speakers are hooked up to the sub via RCA, controlled by the receiver, to provide a smoother low...

Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Ludi, I agree on the center channel. It's really weird, the surrounds can actually go down to about 70 Hz without any loss of bass. But the GLE455 center speaker cuts out really early at +-3 dB@80-90Hz. I'd love to have a third GLE 490 for the center channel, but I'd then have to lay it down on it's...

Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Hello Frumper, Double bass (LFE + Front) is not selected. I tried it for a while, didn't like it. It made my Fronts way to bass heavy compared to the other speakers. - Setting the Fronts as "Large" and turning off the subwoofer would indeed be a valid option, although I read somewhere that...

Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Well, my reciever has Pre-outs, 5 HDMI's in's, 2 toslink in's, it even has multichannel analog inputs (!) and YPAO, it just doesn't offer seperate crossovers for each speaker. It was a 500€ receiver at the time (+-3 years old). I recently checked out the Yamaha RX-V673, one of their best selling rec...

Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Okay, thank you for clearing that up. I'm glad Yamaha makes this possible on their hardware, although I'm baffled why they don't have this kind of setting in their receivers setting. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with a setup where the mains are far more capable then the other speakers. Surel...

Re: Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Isn't that what sort of what I'm doing here? The 'Large' mains run through the speaker input on the sub while the receiver sends the LFE+ bass out from the remaining 'small' speakers through RCA. So they both play at the same time to a single output, like you stated, namely the sub. It sounds good, ...

Using double subwoofer hook-up to bypass crossover

Hello, I had a bit of a problem. When initially calibrating my receiver, a Yamaha RX-V665, I noticed that the center (Canton GLE 455) and surround channels (GLE 430) had a bit of a gap between, say 65hz and 80hz when setting up the receivers internal crossover to 60hz. When raising the crossover to ...

Obviously it's not SLI that's the issue, because he tried turning off SLI. Did you even read the thread before you commented? You're quite right, I missed that step. I just read up to the part where he swiched the cards around, thus assumed Borderlands had been working well BEFORE he installed the ...

Re: Very weird Borderlands 2 problem

I'm pretty sure less than 0,1 percent of people have ever installed 4 cards of that level of power to get something they wanted. The game-makers themselves probably never ever tested for it. I mean, seriously? Doing all that because some game won't work properly on a setup that is quite outragous to...

Then just wait it out until you can double your budget. It makes little sense to spend money on this upgrade, unless you can sell one to buy the other.

Re: 128gb hd enough for an ultrabook?

I'd say buy one with a 256gig drive. I have a UX31E (the TN-panel version) and it's a great machine. But HDD (and SSD) tend to fill up rather quickly, and I prefer to do maintenance once every 6 months instead of every couple of weeks or so. Then again, I work with a lot of mediafiles, iso's, RAW fi...
