Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Metallica  My wife has a standing rule that you have to change the station if Metallica comes on while you're in the car. Not because she hates Metallica though; it's because every auto accident she's had while she was the driver happened while Metallica was playing! Every accident whil...

Re: AT&T ZTE 700a vs ZTE MF279

So I did my first test on this unit and... WOW, what a difference. I went from 1-3mbps to 15-18. The upload seemed to normalize a bit as I was hitting near 7mbps before, now I'm sitting around 5. I'll keep testing this long term and report back for those that care. Surprised to see 60 ms of latency,...

Re: Asus B350M-E + R3 2200G No BIOS Flash

Yeah, the bit about keeping the HSF is bizarre. Either they've got a lifetime supply of them stockpiled somewhere and don't care about getting them back, or the beancounters decided that paying return shipping for the HSF was more cost and trouble than it was worth (it's likely a pretty low-end par...

Re: Asus RX550-2G Loud as Hell

I'm an Asus person pretty through and through... Using their SOHO routers, monitors, laptops, motherboards, ect. However in the video card market I don't often buy Asus, it seems they ask much more for not much more. MSI seems to be my go to almost always for video cards, even for the passively cool...

Incase you guys missed it, since I'm moving WAY to slow on this... AMD offers up those kits we we're talking about. The chip in question has been confirmed to be a AMD A6-9500, a dual core part that is meant to be shipped back afterwards. However, it was reported that you are meant to keep the CPU h...

Re: Asus RX550-2G Loud as Hell

I can confirm the Gigabyte cards that I replaced the loud Asus with is in fact quiet. They have 3 wires ran so they have a speed controller for the fan.

I'm sorry you didn't see the PSA I put up earlier about the card. So damn loud, it really is inexcusable on Asus' part.

AT&T ZTE 700a vs ZTE MF279

So unfortunately, my only Internet option at my "new" house (2 years) is AT&T cellular internet. Not because I live in the complete sticks, but because the local ISP has no reason to expand their network across the road for a few people  . Alas, I am stuck with AT&T, which su...

Is it sad to admit that my first ever CD was "Now that's what I call Music Vol. 1"? Unless you count Adam Sandler's first skit CD "They're all gonna laugh at you!" Which I should have never had access to at my age then :P

Re: Asus B350M-E + R3 2200G No BIOS Flash

That is a good point... A cut down/hardware throttled Bristol APU makes sense for compatibility with the earliest of BIOS revisions and provides an IGP as JBI suggested. I just have a feeling that they will be intentionally hampered to avoid people trying to request one for a free CPU that is actual...

Re: Asus B350M-E + R3 2200G No BIOS Flash

I've started the process of getting the boot kit from AMD. I figured between this release, and future releases with Ryzen 2, who knows how many times I've need an AM4 to flash. Curious if they are just low end Ryzen 3 chips, or perhaps a stunted version of a Ryzen 3 (1 core?) to prevent people from ...

Re: Asus B350M-E + R3 2200G No BIOS Flash

BIOS flasher tools start around $20 (soic clip = no desoldering) and tend to pay for themselves in time and systems saved rather quickly. Don't buy a "cheap" cpu just for one socket, do it for every platform ;) Hmm... going to have to look into getting one of these. Any recommendations? Y...

Re: Asus B350M-E + R3 2200G No BIOS Flash

How long does it usually take for the stock of motherboards to turn over so that they are delivered to you with a newer BIOS? Perhaps a $60 Bristol Ridge APU would be a useful tool for you if you end up needing to flash a bunch of Socket-AM4 motherboards to accept new Raven Ridge APUs? With previou...

Asus B350M-E + R3 2200G No BIOS Flash

So I've ordered the 4 x Ryzen 3 2200G APUs for these small little builds to go into classrooms at a vocational training center. Only problem is, I don't have a spare Ryzen CPU to drop into these to upgrade the BIOS to 3803 to support the new Raven Ridge CPUs that go into them. So, for science (and T...

Re: Video card prices

It may give AMD's new Ryzen APUs a pretty big sales boost though. True, but how many people stuck Intel due to them having IGP already? Considering they are Vega cores... I have a fear that some budget miners are going to show how "useful" they are. Hell, there was an article already up a...

Re: Video card prices

It's effecting more than just "gaming bros". I too am for a free market, I don't want it artificially steered for one group or another. I can however, see the writing on the wall. Nvidia will probably be able to handle weathering the storm as they only have their eggs in one basket and sta...

Re: Video card prices

I'm curious if Nvidia will do anything on Volta to prevent mining. Either at a hardware level or attempt some special sales tactic. The only thing I can imagine working would be onboard hardware and possibly software that worked independently of one another to check if the card is trying to be used ...

Re: Which LGA 1150 chipset is best?

I'd find it hard to spend 150-250 on an "old" board. Does the used market not interested you or were you not finding any options?

At those prices I'd almost consider offloading your CPU and buying a modern motherboard/CPU. Then again, RAM prices. Bah, I guess nevermind lol.

Re: Silverstone SF-ST45SF Dead - Discolored 4pin CPU Power

If there was a damaged or improperly crimped pin in the connector, the unwanted resistance would've caused heating, which would've led to contact damage/oxidation, which would've led to more resistance. Lather, rinse, repeat, and you eventually have a burned out connector. If that was the only prob...

Silverstone SF-ST45SF Dead - Discolored 4pin CPU Power

This is the third failure of some sort out of Silverstone power supplies. So first off I have to say I don't think I'd trust them anymore. Another failed similar, no boot issue, just nothing. Another started having a rattling fan after about 2 years of useage. They just don't seem up to snuff in the...

Those replacement Gigabyte RX 550 are much more quite. In fact they are silent at idle! I noticed the Gigabyte fans are larger as well and have Gigabyte's little grooves in the fan blades to supposedly reduce sound. It of course helps that they have a fan controller. Oh and for fun, I'm returning th...

I hate to post this... But for you Mass Drop folks. There is the Gigabyte GA-AB350-M-Gaming 3 and Gigabyte RX 580 8GB. For $459.99 Considering other sites are considering the Newegg 1070 + z370 board for $600 a good deal... Then this most certainly is. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/gigabyte-radeon-rx...
