Re: New Build Randomly Requires Multiple Starts

Hey Ned, I'm not sure exactly the orientation it was shipped in. It was as checked baggage on an airplane, only a 45 minute flight. It was marked as fragile and in the original computer case. He marked it as fragile. Yeah, I'm wondering whether this is a torqued GPU, one that came out of the slot or...

New Build Randomly Requires Multiple Starts

Hey Gerbils, long time no see. I've got an issue with a new build I put together. Unfortunately the system made it's way nearly 400 miles away and prior to that seemed to be functioning flawlessly. I've built 2 other systems identical to this and not had any problem. Was hoping maybe it's a simple t...

Here is what I tried to post up on the comments of "article" about the new website. It's awaiting moderation, which I suspect will not approve. So here it is. You have completely, and utterly.... F@&$ed up the website I've called home for nearly 2 decades. I don't even know how it is p...

Chrome - Can't scroll on specific website, specific computer

I've got an odd issue on a customers machine. They can't scroll on their own website /shrug. I've tried about everything possible from resetting Chrome, fully uninstalling it and running cleanup afterwards, manually deleting cookies for the site and all others, creating a new profile, starting dead ...

Re: Microsoft acquires GitHub

Microsoft will screw it up, like they do all acquisitions. I guess you are right, it could be worse. Google could buy it and segment it into 1000 different products and eventually kill or sell it off.

Re: Ryzen 7 2700

3.4 all-core isn't too bad for the same power usage as a 1700. The 1700s here are render nodes, where performance/Watt matters and they mostly run at 3.2GHz on all cores, so that's an efficiency improvement from the new process node, by the looks of it. If you're using faster RAM, that's something ...

I enjoyed that WAY too much. Other than the floppies, I think I have almost everything needed to make a setup like that. People have way too much time, and the results are glorious.

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

I have read this thread and seen what has actually happened and I'll say Now that's thinking like an Nvidia lawyer! Seriously. They have obviously vetted this pretty carefully but the arm twisting is real. Vendors like Asus and MSI have invested heavily in brands like RoG and Fatal1ty over a period...

Re: Video card prices

My PNY GTX970 has just started getting bad coil whine over the last few weeks (bought it 2 years ago). It's actually coming out of my sound card's right channel and manifesting itself as static/hiss in my speakers (I did an L/R swap, new RCA cables and swapped 2 different amps to verify). When game...

Re: Quality Tempered Without Breaking Bank

Frosting would probably cost a bit as it requires you to take it somewhere to have it done. Depends, how do you feel about a DIY experiment using glass etching cream? Interesting idea... How consistent could that look? I know you can do something like a soda blaster too. I'm curious how tough those...

Re: General photography thread [img heavy]

I assumed it was a low light, very slow shutter shot of a train crossing. The white "fog" would be the side of grey/white covered hopper cars and you are seeing the scene on the other side exposed through the gaps in the cars. Yeah I noticed it was a train, just curious about the other se...

mirror tinting or fronting the panel. Painting glass takes way to much effort Here I thought my painting suggestion required the least effort and cost....oh well. Cost, maybe. Effort though would require you to use a really good paint or somehow make the surface a bit roughed up to accept the paint...

Thanks for the exchange as well, the one key thing I hadn't seen was that his discs were stamped to represent themselves as official copyrighted Microsoft disks. If nothing else, that would be a sign he was intentionally trying to decieve people of where the discs come from. That sort of changes may...

Re: Quality Tempered Without Breaking Bank

Good feedback, I love the idea of either mirror tinting or fronting the panel. Painting glass takes way to much effort and requires a specific paint. I'm sure the right person could make it look really good. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who finds the Evolv lines/case attractive. On second look...

I guess I'm falling into the marketing and hype train on tempered and hell, even RGB right now. I'm going to be doing a build that includes the 2700x, 16GB of RAM, 1TB M.2 among other things. I'm trying to find the right case for the system and really think I love the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv. Somethin...

I missed an Office Max online only purchase for $100 off an MSI RX 580 4GB. Brought it down to $249.99! That sucker sold ultra fast. Even with it being the 4GB version I was ready to buy it up at fairly close to MSRP.

Yes, the guy clearly broke the law. But IMO the severity of the punishment is out of line, given that the restore image was freely downloadable anyway, and required a valid COA/key to activate. Pretty much my feeling on it. I was just blown away that federal funds were spent to track the guy down a...

Re: Inexpensive IPS for Office (Dual Monitor)

So I FINALLY got Newegg on the phone as they were just plain out not responding via email/website. They spoke to the "vendor" (a bunch of crooks) and they offered the same $39.34 as a discount. Which still makes these $140 monitors that you can get cheaper elsewhere. I said "Nope, the...

That third portrait (living room scene) could have been shot for J.Crew or Land's End. The subject is framed by a perfect "lifestyle" balance of contemporary clothing and furniture. That was sort of what I was thinking. The green with darker lines and patterns especially looks really nice...

Re: Ryzen 2k Series + B350/x370 BIOS from e-tailers

Supposedly, all motherboards marked Ryzen 2000 Ready have Bios that will work "out of the Box" with all Ryzen 2000 series (7, 5, G) CPUs. That being said I had a bad experience with an ASRock X370 PRO4 AM4 motherboard which is listed as Ryzen 2000 Ready on newegg.com and the box itself. I...

Ryzen 2k Series + B350/x370 BIOS from e-tailers

We find ourselves down the road 3 months from the release of the BIOS updates that allowed Raven Ridge boot-ability on B350/x370 boards. Unfortunately, it seems that e-tailers don't either know their products or care about properly informing their customers of which of these "older" boards...
