Re: How can I convert old scanned documents to OCR?

did you try it with a current gen OCR program? Mine reads image pdf's without much problems (omnipage), as my document scanner outputs everything as pdf. Quality can be an issue for certain pages (as well as layout - which in my experience costs most of the time to get it right), but if you first oc...

Re: Blu-Ray on Windows 8.1...

We have the paid version of cyberlink's powerdvd 14 which worked nice for us... I think you should spend around 50$ (either on powerdvd, or nero or another software) to get it working without troubles.

Re: Choices choices.

I would go for a 500 W unit, independent of what the wall outlet said at this moment. I dont' think you'd ever see the difference between a bronze or gold unit in £ back through your electricity bill, so I'd just take a decent 500W unit (eg, the cheapest from your list, as all three are good choices)

Re: Memtest86 run in multicore mode?

Personally, I would use memtest pro. Had some problems with my ram (64 GB ram + gigabyte motherboard that couldn't handle it due to bios problems). A single run of memtest was 24hrs, approx the same as memtest pro - but the latter found errors, where memtestx86 found nothing in it's single pass. It ...

Re: printer recommendations?

I'm from Belgium. Looks like the hp is about 50€/65$ (thanks Greece) cheaper than the brother. Fake filled cartridges appear to be in the 50€ region, which is also a plus

100s of pages is a rare feat, and most of the pages are not that urgent that I cannot wait for the fuser to warm up.

Re: printer recommendations?

what I mean is that the chip tells the printer that the toner ran out of ink, thus disabling the whole printer. eg. with our current minolta - if one color is empty, no more printing... Rather than just keeping on printing, but with warnings those are separate toners, so it's a little different than...

printer recommendations?

Looking for a new printer, as I grow too frustrated with my current one. No specific preference towards laser/inkjet Easy requirements: network and double sided printing relatively fast (amount varies from some pages a week to 100ths of pages a week) color may not be a konika minolta, as all these w...

Re: sugggestions for 6 monitor gaming rig

I have some remarks 1. with 6 screens, I'd go for a 4960x instead of that 4770 - you don't want to be cpu limited 2. with the resolution of 6 screens, I'd go with 2 titan blacks - at this moment, in crossfire, you'll only have 2 GB/card available. For my 3 2410 dell monitors, I sometimes run out of ...

Re: Will a high-RAM system run the RAM at full rated speed?

It could, but would be very difficult above 1866. Owning a 64GB system myself, I can tell that there are several difficulties in having such a system.

On the other hand, the massive amount of bandwith generated by quad channel kind of compensates for the slower MHz.

Re: wanted: choice for stability?

personally, if you want stability, I'd opt for intel + intel. Some current intel (alternative: asus) motherboard with an i3 would do nicely. Add kingston ram (in my opinion the ram with the least compatibility problems) and an intel SSD (or plextor). Nothing fancy about that, but everything will wor...

Not necessarily; in the dark caves where radiologists dwell, privacy doesn't matter (since they are often alone, or not there but at the coffee table).* Privacy filters are mightily anoying when you are looking together to see what that thing exactly is.² Most of the times, you want something like t...

Medical grade + radiology does remind me of barco monitors, which have a special range of monitors for radiology.

you cannot use cheap monitors for that, if it's used by the radiologists... differences in gray values matter on RX pictures

please let me know what you think of them... In the renaissance/early baroque music, you cannot buy anything wrong from Jordi Savall and his orchestras or 'l arpeggiata, le poème harmonique... By me, on the contrary - 2010 loads slower than 2007. Personally, I think there are small refinements in the UI, and the way the program behaves. Powerpoint has some nice features though (when dragging pictures, it shows lines not quite different from photoshop to align the pictures on your slide). ...

productivity wise, eyefinity is not so nice - I like it more when my 3 screens are separate. Also, the difference in productivity between 1 & 2 screens is huge, but it's only a small advantage going to 3 screens. Eyefinity is nice, but depends on the game you play - for racing, it's superb and a...

Alternatively, you could use a z68 board, get a smaller SSD and a bigger (and faster) hdd. As the reviews show, you will not exactly get the performance of SSD + HDD, but it will come close and you'll get a much bigger main drive. For eyefinity with one card; at least one screen should have displayp...
