Re: Stay Safe!

when walls and subfloors have been sitting in deep water for a couple days or more there's no amount of drying out that will save them. Thinner materials like 2x4 pine tend to warp and split, plywood floor materials warp and delaminate, and the mold and rot starts in joints and seams. The best you ...

Lucky for you, if you were to decide to move to Texas, you would find that it is all slab on grad anyway.

Re: Stay Safe!

I assume they mean softwoods like spruce and pine in contrast to hardwoods like hard maple and mahogany. Construction grade lumber is almost always made from softwoods instead of hardwood. Redwood is the only example I can think of offhand where a hardwood is used as construction grade lumber, but ...

I'm not sure I follow the reasoning here, can you elaborate?

Re: What are the best offline games?

The original mass effect series with DLC's is still some of the best gaming money can buy. The new ME is no good, at least as far as I've gotten..... The remastered Bioshock was a hoot to play through again. For the last several years I've wanted to go through the original bioshock, but for whatever...

I've been slowly working through the talos principle, I have absolutely no idea what the star sigils do, other than be so incredibly difficult to figure out that I just don't chase them anymore.

Deschutes Pinedrops IPA

I'm working on a dechutes obsidian stout.

The one time I had the pinedrops IPA, I really enjoyed it, but I can't quite get around the 2-3 dollar premium on a six pack for that beer, especially with the incredible wealth of IPA options I have here in Oregon...

Re: RIP Dezi

Sorry to hear about your loss JBI, to lose your dog so suddenly is not an easy pill to swallow. I think the big thing to take away from the whole relationship is what you did for Dezi. Obviously, you provided her with a great home and an incredible family, you brought in a timid and stand-offish dog...

Re: Monitor Purchasing Advise?

The Asus MG279Q (reviewed here and here ) was down to $481 the week before last. IPS, 144 Hz, VESA standard Adaptive-Sync = AMD FreeSync (35-90 Hz)... check, check, check. If the FreeSync range of this monitor stretched from 24 Hz to 144 Hz, it would be perfect. The Monoprice 13808 is still just $2...

Re: Monitor Purchasing Advise?

Freesync and G-Sync is just a pissing contest that forces people into locked platforms. IMO, I would wait until the battle resolves itself before jumping the gun onto a G-Sync/FreeSync capable monitor + GPU. Yeah, this is the feeling I get at this point in time too. While it seems most expect (hope...

Monitor Purchasing Advise?

Well hello there tech report, since I'm finally about to finish my masters degree, I would like to get a new monitor for my home system, with a timeline set as soon as possible. This creates a bit a predicament, because I haven't performed monitor research in quite a few years, and even if I had, I ...

Re: dymt reloaded

Cool. I'm a pre-electrical engineering student. Seems like OSU is among the only places that call it ECE, though I'm more interested in power/automotive, not designing circuits or consumer electronics. As I tell people, it's much more fun to design something that I can easily see, and that will blow...

Re: dymt reloaded

And yeah, those earthquakes do occur with some frequency. The only reason we keep hearing about that "big one" is because the chance of occurrence is starting to get statistically significant, but who's to know? If the Cascadia Subduction Zone decides to break loose OSU appears (via Googl...

Re: dymt reloaded

I finally fell asleep after the thunder, and I don't wake up super easily. Sounds like those earthquakes far off the coast happen all the time though - are you sure it wasn't just the lightning we felt? Or could "the big one" finally be coming? And another OSU student here? Who are you? :...

Yeah, the thunderstorm was fine, but did you feel the 4 earthquakes we had that night also? All right off the coast.... By the way, I'm typing this from my office in Owen, seems weird to have another Oregon State student on a small community such as TR.... I finally fell asleep after the thunder, a...

Re: dymt reloaded

Lots of thunderbolts and lightning last night (very very frightening me - why does that Queen song always come to mind?). That's not usually how dead week/the month of June starts out... and by the month of June, I literally mean right at the start of it. Started right around midnight and went thro...
