Re: My daughter, the artist

Thanks a million to those who've voted. She has slipped to about 15th, and this is the last day to vote. Apparently the top 5 vote recipients will automatically advance, and the staff of the company can select 5 others to advance as well. Of those ten, a couple judges will choose the winner. So even...

Darn Facebook requirement, though. I got out in August and haven't been back since. I can get my wife to vote. :D

Yeah, I know the FB thing's a bummer. But if your wife will vote, it'd be great. Thanks a ton!

My daughter, the artist

I'm biased, but I'm supposed to be, right? Some of you met my daughter, Laura, at the TR BBQ last summer. She's a very talented artist with both traditional and digital media and is a senior in high school who aspires to pursue graphic design and illustration. To that end, she's working all she can ...

June 16th won't work for me, because Father's Day car show with my dad and boys is a tradition that can't be tampered with.

June 23rd might work, but any weekend in August is better than June for us.

Re: Dudes, check out this sweet RGB-LED snowboard!

Yep, gotta admit, pretty cool to watch. I wouldn't be caught dead on it, but I know some snowboarders who'd go for it. Their attitude seems to always be, "hey, watch this." An RGB LED-lit board would certainly help them get seen.

The weasel hunt is hereby called off. The Microsoft Store completed my Windows 10 upgrade at 8:30 this evening and sent me on my way. They also thoroughly cleaned the R700, which was a nice touch. :D

Re: Who's being weasellier? Me or Microsoft?

It's now 6:30, and I haven't heard from them... I don't plan to make a scene over it, but I'll certainly bring it up again if it's not done today. If it doesn't get done, it seems Microsoft has zero intention to offer me a free laptop. If I demanded it, who's being the weaselliest? Microsoft....

Who's being weasellier? Microsoft or me?

Well, I decided to test Microsoft's guarantee of upgrading a laptop to Windows 10 in one day . My Toshiba Portege R700 was still rocking Win7 and hadn't been powered up or updated in months--since I acquired an ASUS UX305. I could do it myself, as I've done with four other systems in my possession, ...

Re: Asus UX305 touchpad borked after upgrade to Win10

Now Asus says I need to revert to Windows 8.1 to get my touchpad functionality restored: In this situation, I am afraid you would need to reset the laptop to factory win8.1 system, then your touchpad will come back to normal after the entire OS reinstall. Wow, that's a brilliant solution. I should'v...

I contacted Asus support about this. It took a few days, but I finally got a reply this morning. ATKACPI dr...

You need to install Asus Smart Gesture if you do not already have it installed. Then you can open the application from the system tray and check the "Content moves in the other direction with swipe" option to restore proper scrolling . On my UX303 Windows Update automatically instal...

Re: Asus UX305 touchpad borked after upgrade to Win10

I had that double-finger scrolling experience in Win8.1... it was scrolling the "wrong way". I was able to easily switch the direction in the mouse/touchpad settings. I would imagine you can do the same thing in Win10 settings. However, to me the "right way" is opposite from you...

Asus UX305 touchpad borked after upgrade to Win10

I have the UX305, which came with Windows 8.1. After upgrading to Windows 10 the touchpad is misbehaving. First, the sensitivity settings are dialed up, which I can fix easily enough. Second, the 2-finger scroll goes in the opposite direction. All touchpads I've ever used have scrolled the window do...

Are you certain it's the Lockerdome ads? This would be the very first performance complaint we've had on these particular units after running them for a month. Is there also a video ad from Sekindo playing in the right column? We have known issues with those: http://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.p...

Re: Video ads on TR

I am going to speculate that not all the video ads that are in TR's rotation are bad. It may be helpful if you can note which video (or the thing they are selling), or have screenshot in your report. Not all people may see it because it may depend on location and other factors. Bad apples are going...

Video ads on TR

Currently we're running video ads in some 300x250 banner spots in the far right column--mostly below the fold. They're geo-targeted to English-speaking countries and frequency capped to avoid showing a lot to one reader. We have a couple reports that the ads might crash the Flash player in Chrome on...

same, I'm seeing autoplaying videos on most news posts. No adblock here, but I do have EFF's privacy badger running. But are they auto-playing with sound? As stated, the video is expected to auto-play silently if the player is in view and you're reading the desktop version of TR with a PC browser.

Those of you still hearing audio on the video ads, could you super-refresh, clear you cache, purge your thoughts and wipe your shoes?
