Re: Something's different...

I notice Renee seems to have completely given up her 'informative' posts. I'm not sure whether to take that as a positive sign that they've realized the new direction isn't working out, or a negative sign that they've just about given up on the entire site.

Re: Something's different...

If this site is to be believed, TR has lost around 30% of its traffic from July to September: https://www.similarweb.com/website/techreport.com#overview SEO evaluator "woorank" gives the SEO effort a 74/100, and cites obvious things like an XML sitemap missing from robots.txt as problems....

I would love to see what the recent traffic numbers look like. https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/techreport.com Dropped 20,000 spots since The Click. mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn https://i.imgur.com/5E9aHTu.png I really hope they are seeing these numbers. Just a friendly advise for you: if you want to stop community disliking you - at the very least don't insult the intelligence or knowledge of the community by posting the "random list" articles. As you have seen from comments below those articles, no one appreciates those on this site. I ...

Not to rain on your parade, and it is nice that the new guys aren't interfering with content, but ludi's piece was something he contacted me about volunteering to produce in mid-June. What he created is awesome, but it doesn't pay the bills and may not exist if it wasn't offered gratis. That said, ...

Re: Something's different...

There's plenty of plugins that can apply custom css to individual sites. I'm using one called stylish. I even tried sharing my crummy css code I've pieced together if people are curious. I think the css can be pulled straight from that link if people prefer a different solution. I think some browse...

Re: Something's different...

I am still being asked to enter an e-mail address and a new handle when I post a comment on the front page. These really need to stick to forum IDs, or at least be permanent and limited to just one handle per verified e-mail address. There may be a few voting irregularities in the thumbs up/down sy...

Here's the million dollar design question for the sufficiently bored among you. https://imgur.com/a/on0xJBO How does one "recent" column, and a Mini-Me "recentier" column right next to it, help anyone in particular? The main thing I saw was how huge the entries for each article ...

Re: Something's different...

As negative as I am on this whole thing we should at least give them a chance to fix the new UI. The staff is still intact, the new owners are providing the money to keep content flowing (kinda needed to save this site!), if they can start providing solutions to some of their initial screwups a work...

Here's the thing everyone: I'm no Lovecraft expert, but I think the analogy to draw is that we're dealing creatures that are barely aware of our existence. Re: Something's different...

I think the main point to draw from this entire thread is that we're complaining about the changes because we view them as harmful to the site and that we clearly care about the site's survival. I'm sure it can be worked out to work with the new CMS, but if you can telegraph that sentiment to the o...

Re: Something's different...

What really sucks is the best review TR has had in a long time is getting lost in the complaints about the new UI. Zak must have put in a ton of hours of testing in the last week and the article has all of 30 comments, with a decent chunk of those about the UI and not even mentioning the review itse...

Re: Something's different... (new)

I really don't think much of the UI design. Ultra low density, all white, the 'recent posts' right column appears to be completely useless as it's just a copy of the primary/center column, having to specifically go the a separate page to even know a new review has been posted. Plus general UI simpli...

What the heck? I've been writing tech stuff for literally weeks and how come I don't have a job at Intel or amd? I hear VIA hasn't hired anyone yet! Lots of room for someone to tell us all about the wondrous glories of the KX-6000 if only we'd leave those tiny companies like Intel, AMD, and Nvidia ...
