Hopefully AMD APUs will have HT at least, if not a hex-core model.

Re: is the Toshiba X300 any good?

I've discovered just the opposite, Waco. In many cases, a removable drive will sell for less than the cost of a bare drive and a decent ($20+) enclosure combined. There's a cottage industry of people buying on-sale/refurbished external drives and pulling them for internal or RAID use, in fact. EDIT:...

While we're taking this little trip down musical memory lane, it got me to thinking about how my musical tastes have shifted over the years. The progression has been: Pop and Rock -> Prog Rock -> Fusion, Jazz, and Classical -> Metal (mostly Prog Metal, with some catching up on classic '70s/'80s Met...

Monster Magnet. Specifically, the Power Trip album. Spacey, but at the same time fairly heavy. You can pay attention to the (weird) lyrics when you need to but freely ignore them as well.

Re: Shield K1 out of production?

It's pretty appalling how little Android tablets have improved since 2013, and in some regards have actually gotten worse. The Nexus 7 had a quad-core Krait CPU, with pretty powerful out-of-order cores. Most devices in a similar price range these days have crappy A7/A53 in-order cores. I just found...

AFAIK all Windows 7/8/8.1 keys are still good for a Win10 upgrade, although MS doesn't advertise this.

At this point I doubt they're going to ever rescind that offer.

Re: What are the best offline games?

Obviously totally subjective, but for me it's Civilization IV. I can always pick up where I left off or just start a new game and my W10 tablet can run it for at least 4 hours in offline mode with brightness turned down (as usual). I'll play that when I'm traveling (plane, hotel) and can't count on...

Dell has never liked AMD, even in the good old days at the turn of the century.

I don't think anything could cause fandom to accept Jar-Jar, but Robin Williams would have been a huge help. Phantom Menace is definitely better than Attack of the Clowns , but the only one I actually kind-of almost liked was Revenge of the SIth . I must have seen a different first two prequels tha...

Robin Williams' performance was the best part of that movie. Would the Star Wars community accept Jar-Jar Binks if he/she/it was voiced with a completely unleashed Robin Williams? If the rumors are true that Lucas originally intended Jar Jar to be a villain in the later prequels it's possible the c...

I was really excited to play Arma 3 back in the day. Especially with all the zombie apocalypse mods my friends played.

The AAAA price was a major problem, especially considering how finely aged the game even back then. The game plus DayZ was something like $80 combined. Nope.

So as a general arc, we know that The Last Jedi will have one big similarity to Empire : it will be darker/more depressing than its predecessor. I mean obviously. Damn...lots of good suggestions. I priced out a NUC, SODIMMs SSD and Win 10 home and a 1TB SSD....I have to say the price is attractive. That does leave them without professional support though. Hmmm...weighing options. ...and of course, if I go down that road, I might as well just build them a pc ...

It's not just failures--have you ever tried to use an undelete utility on a SSD? Garbage collection seems to be so aggressive that in many cases you only have about ten minutes to use it before it gets zeroed out. With TRIM I am surprised you even have 10 minutes. I'd expect it to be less, since th...

OK, I'm going to expose my ignorance of the OSI model here, but this has always been a question to me. If I've got a dumb 2.5GBit switch (assumption for this hypo) connected to the router by a 1GBit link, does not the speed of that link constrain the packet flow between ports on the switch? If pack...

I'm struggling to understand why you wouldn't get a 1700-non-X. It's not as if R7's clock any differently, and you'd get an acceptable cooler in the bargain.

Why wait? LACP is relatively well supported... with a sufficiently large switch (for the extra ports) and a relatively inexpensive dual/quad-interface network card you can get those speeds right now.
