Wait, a licensed LotR show not based on the books? Jeez, fanfiction has gone really mainstream.

Re: What happened to my overclock?

Yes, I had a very minor overvolt for my i7-920, but that didn't help in the end. After 5 years at 3.0GHz, I was losing about 100MHz a month every month. I eventually retired the CPU and switched over to another 920 for about a year, after which it showed the same problem, even though that CPU hadn't...

Re: Ordering from Lenovo: Do you feel lucky, Punk?

I like Lenovo gear as a rule, but I never buy from them. Amazon and NewEgg seem to get a lot of stock, I'd imagine that anything you'd want to order you could replicate with one of the third-party models and a cheap SSD.

Re: Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

whm1974, blackstrap doesn't taste the same as regular molasses, and not all brands (or batches) are alike since it's essentially the barrel scrapings from making the regular stuff.

I'd definitely taste whatever you buy before you cook with it.

Re: Is Flips Audio going out of business?

"Audiophile" is not the same thing as "someone looking for decent sound". Once you factor in the budget constraints experienced by mere mortals, and the "audiophilia nervosa" mindset, the two concepts can even become nearly orthogonal. Since I have hearing loss and liv...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Mr. Bill, just as a Devil's Advocate, at the current values in other currencies, BitCoin could be used for bulk/large payments only and the transaction cost wouldn't be so bad in that case. EDIT: Mudcore, sorry about that, I get you. Yes, BitCoin is here to stay, although I'm sure the eventual value...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Mudcore, here's why Bitcoins are in a bubble currently: there are too many buyers. We know this is true because of the price increases. For every buyer there must be a seller; BitCoin is designed to be un-minable eventually, the whole point of the virtual currency is supply exhaustion. What happens ...

In the interests of random posting here about sports (which I haven't followed in years), I've recently begun to watch the Vegas Golden Knights.

For a Ice Hockey brand-new expansion team based in one of the hottest cities in the country, there sure are doing well!

I'll stick with my Oppo PM3s just the same. Planar-magnetic and closed-back, so both high quality and office-friendly. Travel duties belong to the Shure SE530s. Cap'n, I have some Sennheiser HD650's myself. My post was in reference to just buying something bad-sounding because it was cheap - there'...

Audiophiles... I guess you have $1000 headphones and speakers don't you? You can get some pretty nice sounding headphones for under $100. And based on the reviews I'm seeing, Flips don't qualify. JBI (and everyone else) Superlux HD668B are audiophile-grade headsets, and you can get them online for ...

The only time I've seen this is when the game's full-screen resolution doesn't match the desktop resolution. Then again, most of my video cards have been AMD, so I'd expect that kind of thing sometimes. No ideas why it's happening on a 1080.

Re: Help me understand, why is there a sport section?

I would guess the OP has his answer by now, but in case not: There is obviously quite a lot of crossover between tech and sports--the wealth of sports games and simulations (and the use of the latter in the real world of sport) is a clear testament to that. Then too is the fact that many sports-min...

Well the CE would stand for Crippled Edition. Personally if I was running a company that made GPUs and CPUs, I would more refuse to make such a product out of pride and simply offer a discount to OEMs. whm1974, they are probably selling OEMs harvested cards. My guess is that they were encouraged to go for it by someone.

PIA is awesome. It's also a known VPN provider, and most video and gaming services blacklist the egress points, likely because legal reasons. Which reduces the usefulness of PIA significantly.

I'm curious how many "4K" games will run at native 4K. Most likely? None, at least none the way a PC graphics card would display them. The current crop of consoles don't have the grunt for 4K@60-FPS. All games so far are either upscaled or missing various graphical features. Forza 7 is na...

derFunkenstein, that looks like Grade-A BS to me. "We're sorry we got caught". Think about it for a second. Say that AMD is correct that this is meant for OEM use and wasn't intended to reach the AIB channel. If that's true, then AMD is intending for OEMs to advertise "buy our stuff, ...

The weird part is that most of them grow out of it. In other words, whm1974, we're both the same age - too old for this ****.
