Re: Can you run two RAM kits at different speeds?

If that option exists, the memory that's forced to run at a lower speed to match the rest could have its timings tightened up. However, I have no idea if this would help anything, and, in fact, Intel Core architecture doesn't seem to care about memory speed very much. Based on reviews I've read, Has...

The 470 mining *does* have video out, but it's only a single DVI-D.

The good news is that a single DVI-D is all I'd need, since my monitor has one of those connectors.

How hard is it to read a few documents or play around the system? Or for that matter use a freaking search engine? Can't tell if serious... So, try to imagine the average Windows user's level of interest in reading documents. A subset of those will play around with the (Windows) system. A subset of...

Supposedly within tolerances, but worrying. Not to mention the bizarre performance dips for no reason... although that might...

I know that APUs are and will continue to be a thing, it's just that having the GPU in its own socket would help with power delivery and heat dissipation, and possibly PCIe lane tracing as well. For weaker APU-style GPU, the separate packaging will create issues with PCIe lane tracing and additiona...

It really surprised me that parts distributors like Digi-Key and Mouser continued sending out massive print catalogs to all of their customers until fairly recently. Why would you want to flip through a 2000+ page print catalog with tiny print and limited data when you can use the search function o...

If it's all artificial anyway, why would people object based on what kind of meat it is meant to resemble? Well maybe, but I'm thinking that devout Hindus, Muslims, and Jews at least would still have issues eating beef and pork even if is cultured in a vat. Could also go the other way. "Hey, n...

You could also configure the server to contain the Remote Desktop "role" (in other words, install the RDP service service), but MS is pretty schizophrenic about whether that's an additional cost or not - I don't know how the licensing works this month.

I am getting increasingly frustrated at the number of times I have to revert to a previous save because something went wrong and I lost multiple troops (once they're dead, you can't use them any more, for the rest of the game). Juzz86, I agree with everyone else - go big or go 1151. In either case, you should consider that Intel tends to switch sockets on a regular basis, and a meaningful upgrade might not end up available for the board you purchase. I'd recommend that CPU and motherboard form a lifetime partnership. With ...

If some buffoon wants to pay me $600 for my RX480 I'm more than willing to give up gaming for the rest of the year until prices come back down and I can buy an RX Vega. I just need a 560 but prices for that card are in the higher range as well. I may end up getting a non-Ti 1050, which is low-power...

The problem at this point is the miners are moving to Nvidia cards Mostly just the 1070 (for now). 1070 is almost out of stock everywhere and the prices are nearly as much as a 1080, so you might as well go for a 1080 and get Destiny 2 for free. Apparently the 1080 isn't as attractive for mining du...

Congrats southrncomfortjm. I'd encourage anyone else with a 480 to do the same. Let the miners take all the risk and deal with all the nonsense. You just put the cash in your pocket. Coin mining definitely pays... although it's not the miners that get the money. This reminds me of mining boomtowns ...

I wonder if the interposer used in HBM can be used to provide mesh or infinity link between modules in a package. Yes. Raja of AMD has dropped hints that that is the direction he's going for GPUs. Same principles for scaling the number of CPUs cores in a design. Intel also has their EMIB technology...

Well, the mining applications are simply using the GPU compute capabilities. In order to make them less attractive to cryptocurrency miners they would need to cripple the GPU compute capabilities somehow, which I imagine they're rather reluctant to do since it would impact other uses of GPU compute...

You just setup a simple firewall rule that says connections must be initiated from the LAN port, only related packets are allowed back in on the WAN port. No need for DMZ or anything silly like that. I guess that modern OSs are secure enough that this might work for a self-installed FW. Of course, ...

I suspect most people will probably still be behind a NAT. You *can* do universal addressing, but why not just have the router have the IPv6 address and NAT it to actually readable IPv4 addresses. Although one cool thing you could do would be selective pass through of IPv6 which would help people w...
