Re: Streaming Build Complete

You could check out the monitor with this . Is anything in particular bugging you about it? I found some settings that made it a little better a few days after I posted this, and then have been too busy to check back to see if someone else had answered. I will give those test pages a try when I get...

Re: Wanting new monitor, research ends in confusion

Personally, I hate using a TV as a monitor. Until recently, I lived in a tiny apartment with my computer as my main screen (movies and gaming). I tried a TV as a monitor previously, and felt much too disconnected sitting far away from it (even 1.5m felt too far for me). I have been using the ASUS PB...

Streaming Build Complete

My new build is purchased and assembled! I'd love some input on the last paragraph about image quality for my new monitor. The only changes from my intended build: 1) Opted for stock cooler with the 2700x (didn't realize has RGB until I saw the cables in the box, which is fun for a change) instead o...

Re: Windows 10 License and Clean install

If Windows 10 has already been activated on the old machine, simply download the Windows10 ISO from Microsoft and install it like you would (delete the old partitions is the easiest, secure erase is the safest). The reinstall wont ask for your Windows key because it's already imbedded in the BIOS s...

Re: Windows 10 License and Clean install

Ahhh good to know. It seemed like everyone in that thread were talking like the licenses were 100% legit, but your explanation sounds a lot more in line with what I'd expect. In that case, I think I will transfer the license from my old drive to my new PC and leave a clean install inactivated on the...

Windows 10 License and Clean install

My first question is -- I've seen someone here link to a site that sells cheap Windows 10 licenses that are legit. Anyone know what that site is and whether it really is reliable? Basically I'd just create a Windows install boot and plug that license in right? Second question -- I'm building a new P...

Re: Streaming PC Build

Well, I bought the 2700x. Turns out I had a $15 off coupon on Amazon and I earn 5% at Amazon, so heyyy... it's basically a 2700x for $266+tax.

Now to buy the rest of the thing! Hoping for some better deals over the next week or so.

Re: Streaming PC Build

This is going to depend on the encoding settings you want to use. I've found that the Ryzen 7 2700X is about the entry point for using x264 "fast" when encoding 1080p60 without dropping frames, while the i7-9700K wasn't up to the job (at least with Far Cry 5, which should have similar CPU...

Re: Streaming PC Build

Those benchmarks also only show the user side FPS. The threads that benefit encoding could affect the viewer side video quality from what I've seen from other reviews. Such as the link below. Although I know it doesn't fully compare since they are using an 8700k and pretty intense stream settings wh...

Re: Streaming PC Build

Will the 8 threads of the 9700k be worse for encoding than the 16 of the 2700x? If so, I think 2700x really is the way to go for me in terms of price and performance. Fortnite isn't the most demanding title out there right now, and from what I've seen it's fairly easy to maintain 144hz (with some di...

Re: Streaming PC Build

How would the $500 8-core 8-thread Core i7-9700K match up against the $309 8-core 16-thread Ryzen7 2700X in your planned use? $200 is already a pretty big jump. How would suitable Mobo and cooling add to that price? I think it might push the price up a little too high... But maybe going with slight...

Streaming PC Build

I took some advice from my previous thread and have held off til now in hopes of sales on parts, but I'm about ready to purchase. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything here. Goal The goal of this build is to stream Fortnite gameplay. I am daily ranked in the top 100 to 1500 players wo...

Re: Motherboard for OC noob

The Gigabyte board I linked has a pretty beefy 8+3 phase VRM (at a high level, count all the grey boxes around the CPU and subtract 2 that are dedicated to RAM) Gigabyte was caught faking the phase count on one of their B450 boards. What’s new is that Gigabyte has axed a hi-side MOSFET on B450, res...

Motherboard for OC noob

Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming vs. Asus Prime X470-Pro The goal is to get the most out of a Ryzen 2600x for gaming and streaming. This will be my second PC build, but my first time overclocking. I've read that Asus boards are a little more friendly to amateur overclockers, but is it REALLY enough ...

Congratulations on a successful fix. Hopefully things will keep working this time until you are ready to upgrade to an 8-core fire breather in some future year. Thanks! I just realized that this month is the 3 year mark for my current PC, which was my initial goal when building the PC. I'm currentl...

Re: Another Round of System Failure

Thanks folks! I removed the components and then reseated everything and it's back in working order again so far (no graphics or fan issue). This kind of issue probably didn't deserve its own thread, but I wanted to be prepared in case it was an issue like last time (which took me a lot longer to res...

Heya folks. Me again with another PC failure. The last issue I had was here -- https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=120558 My PC has been working fine and dandy since I replaced the motherboard earlier this year. Until yesterday... I had my first day off in a while and decided to s...

Re: Build upgrade -- more processing power?

After these responses and other research, I think I would go for either the Ryzen 5 2600x or the i7-8700k. For now I'm just upgrading the MOBO, RAM, and CPU. Again, I don't play the newest highest end games. I don't even max the settings in Fortnite (since additional visual effects can hinder visibi...

Build upgrade -- more processing power?

Hello again folks! My Objective I am considering changing out some of the core components of my build to enhance the processing and multitasking power. I have most recently been having a blast playing Fortnite. It runs fine by itself (90+ FPS on 1440p). However, I have enjoyed Nvidia's "Highlig...

Re: Computer Failure

I'm definitely considering purchasing a new MOBO, CPU, and RAM combo. I'd rather just upgrade. It'd be nice to have a 4 core processor now because I am playing higher end games than when I built my budget PC. Why stop at four cores? $180 AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz (3.6 turbo) six-core twelve-t...

Before the problem started, had you fiddled with any BIOS settings? Almost sounds like some sort of automatic OC thing that gets disabled if it sees a hardware change. Depending on how long you had the CMOS battery removed, it may not have reset everything; try resetting it with the jumper, as indi...
