Yeah, no thanks. You have outdated knowledge and assumptions. You keep yours, ill keep my actual hands on experience/research solving this very problem across multiple unixes. i meant code=execute region, text=data/read only region, in the classical computer science sense. also, at home, i havnt use...

Re: My first Notebook, how to care for it.

Yup, beware of mechanical hdd and the biggest issue is maintaining proper cooling. I think the dirty secret for most laptops is that you need some type of prop, a centimeter wide stick, a 3 edged ruler, something to lift back of laptop off any surface to allow good airflow. Never ever use on a bed(s...

Re: high disk usage when running apps for the first time after windows startup

blahsaysblah, I used to think that way... What you describe is not a symptom of memory pressure/starvation in most any modern OS. That sounds like a bug. Chrome is pretty bleeding edge in how it does things. Not first time its caused issues. Mostly with relation to Intel graphics drivers. JBI, i gu...

Same, just wanted to add, i got yesterday two shucked 2.5" Seagate Backup Plus drives -- 4TB 15mm ST4000LM024. They are not silent like my 2.5" WD 7mm but its not a clickety clack noise. Just a constant whoosh when not sleeping. Not loud at all or annoying. Likely wouldn't hear once inside...

Absolutely not for multiple reasons. I have a very good and thorough understanding of how its works and all the rare implications it has through no fault of mine. :( The only safe way to use storage backed memory is when it is the primary source of memory. Re: high disk usage when running apps for the first time after windows startup

You have 16GB RAM, turn off pagefile and also hibernation, which would also turn off fastboot(as it sits inside hibernation file). That can help rule out some issues. Especially the Windows fastboot feature. It causes hard to pin point issues all the time. You could be just having bad luck with poor...

Why not a simple old style single pole light switch. That's less than a $1 from HD. And than you get option to have it off if you ever want to. But you seem to be looking for those closet/cabinet switches. Leviton 1865 3 Amp, 125 Volt, Single-Pole, Doorjamb with Jamb Box Switch, Single Circuit Momen...

Re: Forcing max all-core turbo on i7 4790 (non-K) under load.

Is it worth the hassle? 200Mhz is only 5% of 4Ghz. In perfect world, that would be 5% more performance.

If you really have issues, set the power mode to performance to keep the clocks at max. Disable any extra power saving/sleep features you can. Assuming your cooler is up to task.

I'm just PO at "normal" mode basically being 'use 50-100W more power for 1-2FPS' They likely had to do that to increase supply. While most reviewers had no issues with power save mode, there could be a non-insignificant portion of supply that wont be stable at power save mode power levels...

I say the 1.75% RX cards vs 17% GTX 1xxx cards will continue with Vega because it's a year late and has only one slight advantage. Im going to also counter that Vega has any demand, considering it has similar profile as RX and the RX cards are 1-3/4% of Steam survey share. Re: Move icon on SSD W7 desktop, Hdrives wakeup!

Are you sure some part of windows is not on the HDD? Windows has always been good about not waking my HDD drives unless it was necessary.

My best guess would be you have something linked to HDD on desktop. As Windows Explorer scans desktop to do your move request, that wakes up HDD.

Re: Now that Zen has saturated market... Is it safe to say AMD has returned to form?

I think a lot will depend on upcoming APU's. Yup, you cant discount laptops and work/non-gamer PCs. That's the market share part versus the margin/profit gamer part. If you were building a new machine today with Ryzen, you'd have to pay $70/$90 for a GTX 1030/RX 550. That easily brings the CPU into...

Recent post said they only delid after they bin(actually it was optional before, but almost everyone choose it). And its only for a few secs to see they don't have any issues. Which makes sense, as whoever gets the non-OC-able CPUs would want the Intel warranty intact.

If you're comfortable with it, Silicon Lottery has the 1600X for $200 with Paypal. Seems not much market for vetted AMD processors Ryzen processors. 1. 1600X if you dont plan to overclock, 1700 if you do, except, there are additional costs with OC, you need good cooler, sometimes more/better case fans,... all that adds up to, maybe just better off with stronger Intel.
