Re: Artic islands

silly question, but are the future chips going to be merely die shrinks, or are they coupling that with a new architecture? im assuming both.

edit: i think that's where "hopefully" comes into play in terms of the die shrink (from article).

KitGuru Says: Desktop replacement laptops are not truly mobile. The Asus ROG GX700 has just increased performance of DTR laptops to a whole new level thanks to liquid cooling. However, what’s the point of clamshell form-factor if it is not really transportable? Apple’s Mac Pro has around 200W therma...

:D thx! edit: i really like the idea of a chip that performs at gm204 levels, but is priced more around gm107 or gm206. that'd be nice. i agree. a pcie powered only chip would be awesome also, that im sure would sell well given the performance of the 750ti, and using it as baseline from which to ext...

Re: Go for budget or go for broke gpu?

The stock blower on the Radeon R9-290 runs harder/louder than on the Radeon HD7970. If you didn't like the stock blower there, you would hate it on the larger and more power-hungry GPU. The reference blower on the GeForce GTX 980Ti is also louder than the HD7970, but not quite as annoying as the R9...

Re: Go for budget or go for broke gpu?

the most attractive ones imo (price wise), are the ones that have blowers. would you necessarily recommend those? i did not have the greatest experience with the 7970 for instance. the noise and heat that thing pumped out was pretty obscene. im not sure however, if these newer chips are better in th...
