Re: Everything look kosher with this build?

I would also recommend getting the fastest RAM you can afford and which is supported by the motherboard.

Also, remember to get a rabbi to bless your rig once you build it.

Re: Basic Upgrade for failing system

Hello fellow gerbils! I'm starting to have some audio problems in my MB and instead of just buying an audio card, I was thinking of upgrading the whole MB, CPU, RAM, specially since this build is now 7 yrs old. The current build is: i7-870 P7P55D-Deluxe 8Gb RAM (4x2gb) DDR3 1600MHZ GTX 960 SSC EVGA...

It's certainly a disappointment that neither Vega nor 1080 are really satisfactory for 4k. Actually since I have the numbers... Coming in a little late here, but it needs to be said: do not- ever- argue with average FPS alone. You're on TechReport. I would go with minimum frame rates or better yet ...

Re: Xbox One X

The Xbox One( and S) are a physically different architecture that developers need to specifically optimize for to take advantage of. The XBox X uses similar architecture as PS4/PS4 Pro. They don't have any need to turn it into an X1 or X1S, it can just do what it's been asked to and nothing more. T...

might as well have an official thread for it, though it'll start off late In fact, DX11 moves into 'maintenance mode' on Xbox One X, suggesting that Microsoft is keen for developers to move on. There are benefits for both Xboxes in doing so - and there may be implications here for the PC versions t...

Any reason AMD couldn't have Vega made at TSMC instead of GloFo? Didn't they redo their GloFo contract a bit ago to be less tied to them?

Vega Meta Analysis

I pulled together average reported frame rates from several sites (including TR) for how the Vega64 and Vega 56 compare against the GTX1080 and GTX1070 at 1440. I'm not sure why the general feeling I get from the interwebs is that Vega failed. Was Vega supposed to beat the GTX1080Ti? No. Does it use...

You've probably got a very specific set of requirements if Ryzen ThreadRipper 1900X meets your needs better than Ryzen 7 1800X or Ryzen ThreadRipper 1920X or even an EPYC 7000 series CPU does. Well the 60 PCIe lanes and quad channel memory features does come to mind. Threadripper 1900: when you nee...

Re: OK TR, where's the Vega OMG Unboxing Story?

Probably better off switching gears and getting Vega done and up on Monday, and finish a little later in the week. The reason for the late Threadripper review is public knowledge and thoroughly AMD's fault already. If AMD wanted high-quality prose posted on time they should have sent Jeff his sampl...

Proves my point and I love TR's reviews. It would be nice if AMD realized we have folks like Waco and maybe others who make IT decisions who are honestly looking for reasons to pick up a Threadripper. I know there are many people in places of purchasing power (at various companies and national labo...

Re: Dumb idea/thought experiment

I wonder if AMD might include 16GB HBM2 in a possible Zen2 or Zen3 based APU, and completely eliminate the need for RAM on the motherboard? I actually think this is a good possibility. Though I wouldn't eliminate RAM entirely from the picture; maybe some models would eliminate it but don't remove i...

Thanks guys, appreciate the information! Replacement carb for the mower I referenced was $112. If there was a generic that would fit it I never found one that said so, and for that price it was either fix it or buy a new mower. Thank god the one I eventually replaced it with has a good Honda OHC en...

Re: Anyone repair anything today?

Is like anything else, stores sell lots of worthless mowers and few decent ones, but they do sell some. To be fair being forced to use ethanol-tainted gas certainly doesn't help the carburetors either, and that's usually what is guaranteed to be the first thing to have problems. Cleaning those thin...

Been learning AC repair. (yay!) Bought an old house a year ago. Not a huge house but it has 2 HVAC units, one for each side. One looks like its 10 years old, located in the garage, and running fine. One looks like it was born with disco shoes, located in the basement, and has been running okay but I...
