Currently ripping up carpet in a bedroom, then going to put down floor leveler and eventually some vinyl plank.

Re: weird issue would like your input

Can you verify that the PSU fan is spinning? Actually... no. I think I should really double check. I'm not sure if it blows down through the bottom of the case or out the back. And I don't remember there being dust on the dust filter. There is 140mm fan right next to it using the same filter and th...

Re: RyZen+ Preorder: DO IT NOW!

Sure, the single-core peak clockspeed of 4.35GHz is better than the 4.1GHz that was possible on an 1800X or 1600X, but that's not really what Ryzen is about. If you want single-thread performance you're buying a CPU from the wrong vendor - the $86 Pentium G5600 is going to give you the same perform...

Re: RyZen+ Preorder: DO IT NOW!

The 2700X looks great but I can't justify $329 for ~10% upgrade (vs my current 1700X). I couldn't find a clear summary of the advantages of X470 vs X370? Anyone know? I believe the 400 mobos have better support for XFR/Boost, not sure to what extent but I'm guessing: its support for boosting any nu...

Re: Anyone repair anything today?

Just finished helping the wife repaint the foyer and upstairs hallway. I did all the second story ladder work taping and edging, she did the rest since it was her project (existing color was fine by me). This weekend will be borrowing the parents' pickup to get some straw and throw down some grass s...

Re: RyZen+ Preorder: DO IT NOW!

Not enough for me to spring from last years R5 1600 build, even if I had the money. But I have a friend about to pull the trigger and with the R5 1600 and R5 2600X only being $50 apart and 3.2/3.6GHz vs 3.6/4.25GHz, the old part isn't cheap enough to make it a no brainer to get the new one.

I'm surprised how many of our dogs don't find things on the floor and its only the small dogs who respond to toe tapping. The larger ones you practically have to force their noses on it before they recognize it.

Flashback: 4-10% CPU usage is roughly what you'd see playing an MP3 file on a 300MHz K6. :D

Curious if this is spreading the load a little or just stressing 1 or 2 threads.

A clicky hard drive is it being nice and saying "Get all of your data off of me ASAP" rather than failing without warning.

SSD, new GPU if you can find an affordable one, maybe more RAM if your memory usage is exceeding 6 or 7GB.

They want the chips back? Doesn't make sense to me. I've already joked about them not being able to sell these chips but... The people doing these are enthusiasts generally, they might very well take the extra chip and build another system with it be it a NAS box or a basic game system for a child o...

I replaced my old home a/c thermostat with a new, programmable Honeywell unit. Home Depot has a fire sale on the one I wanted, regularly $120 on sale for $39. I was unable to resist. It doesn't have wi-fi, but I can set it for four different time periods each day. Lighted touch screen and battery b...
