Re: Overclocked system now running hot.

Everything derFunkenstein said. But if a radiator cleaning + new TIM and mounting doesn't improve things then I'd start to suspect the cooler as starting to go bad, they typically only last three years anyway before they need water or the pump goes out. If the H50 is serviceable you might top off t...

Overclocked system now running hot.

I have an overclocked i7-2600K (~33.3%, 4.5 Ghz). The system was purchased early last year (2013). it has always run a bit hot in overclock (Core#0-#3) around 80c, but just this past week I have noticed it now (Core#1-#3) goes all the way to 100c and then starts dynamically reducing the overclock to...

Case without lighting

I want a case to build an econobox for my bedroom, Noise is not too much of an issue as I have a loud fan in there on most of the time anyway. My issue is that I am extremely sensitive to lights when trying to sleep and this PC I want to be powered on 24/7. So I want a case without LEDs, without a b...

So is .308 military surplus ammo still over $0.40 a round? I remember fondly the old days of $0.14/round south African battle packs.

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

Well I took the week off, so I have ~90 hours in the game so far. - Leveled an Elementalist to level 80, and a Ranger to level 20. - Leveled 3 tradeskills to 400. (Jewelcrafting, Tailoring, Cooking) - Earned about 3-4 gold on the TP (would have made a LOT more, but in total I have had ~1.5 hours of ...

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

Looking at this most recent beta I was overall presently surprised: 1. They fixed crafting by allowing you bank access while at a crafting station. I really hope this stays for release because it is needed to handle all those ingredients and intermediate products. 2. Mob kills seemed easier this wee...

1. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (Surprised no one mentioned this, man I loved this game) 2. Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

I think its great that it is releasing but I do have a few concerns: 1. Crafting is still a mess... Too many components to have in your inventory and still be able to have space for the combined-products (this is especially true for cooking which can have several intermediate ingredients before you ...

Re: What are you drinking RIGHT NOW?

When we speak to a child who will not eat certain foods or drink some beverages we always feel we need to broaden their horizons to new things, and the goal is to get them to eat and drink a wider selection of stuff. Yet, at some point as we grow older the opposite thing happens and we seem to narro...

Re: New Gaming System

I put in a 1KW power supply in case I decide to Crossfire with a second 7970, which would put it right at the 50% sweet spot. The gold certification means it is still pretty efficient outside the 50% sweet spot.

New Gaming System

My new rig from Cyberpower PC arrived. Yeah I know this is system builders so I guess buying a pre-built system doesn't belong here... Hate on me if you wish, I am too happy to care. My last few builds have all had "Murphy's Law" issues that just depressed the hell out of me, so I just wan...

Re: Will I see a gaming benefit with an SSD as a 2nd HD?

Thanks for the replies, I think I will try the Intel SRT and get a 32-64 GB drive, but I won't do that "Maximize" mode... even though I do have a UPS. The new PC is an i7-2600K, Obsidian 650D case, 1KW PS, Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 mobo, 8GB RAM, 2TB SATA III HD, and... wait for it... AMD Radeon H...

Will I see a gaming benefit with an SSD as a 2nd HD?

My new desktop PC build is too important to my daily life to risk any BSODs or data loss to use an SSD as a main drive (not trying to start a discussion as to their stability, I am sure there are other topics for that issue). My only question is will I see major improved gaming performance if I inst...

Re: Want to build a PC for torrents for under $300

I have zero interest in helping you to steal intellectual properties. More than 99% of all of the torrent traffic in the world is criminal. I'm not helping someone steal intellectual property. So I guess you have no issues with libel, labeling me a thief without any proof. It was not my intention t...

Want to build a PC for torrents for under $300

This is not a thread about Torrents. I am asking about a PC build. I saw "The Compact Fusion Reactor" in the march system builds and it got me curious. What I want is some ideas for building a PC that will be exclusively used to run a torrent downloader, 24/7. Is the above system what I sh...

Re: New build for friend...C&C appreciated

Speaking as a person who spent $4000 on my last build, I would suggest these tips: 1. Spend a good chunk on a great monitor. I love my 30" Dell flat screen more than any other feature of my PC. (make sure he has the desk space for it!), it will also justify the graphics card setup you have sele...

Re: Building a PC for Home Theater, need suggestions.

I am now thinking I may be trying to redesign the wheel... My best bet is to: 1. Make sure that he has some Home Theater component that plays audio files and has either a hard drive or a network connection (prefer both). This might just mean getting a more expensive A/V Receiver that has this functi...

Re: Building a PC for Home Theater, need suggestions.

This PC needs to do: 1. Integrate as well as possible with the Home Theater system as far as controls and simplicity of use. (This will likely need to be discussed with my Dad's A/V guy. For Instance, whatever software players/sound card he uses on the PC need to be able to be adjusted to work well ...

Building a PC for Home Theater, need suggestions.

Hey all, My father is finally retired and is in the process of fixing up his dream home in Hilton Head SC (lucky dog gets to golf and beach all day). Re: What do you want in a pc game?

In addition to my FPS, I would like to see a new design in MMORPG. My examples are going to use "World of Warcraft" to illustrate. I want playstyles to be catered to at the "server" level. They already do this to some extent with PvP vs. PvE servers, and I just want it extended t...

Re: What do you want in a pc game?

Game idea that I would like explored: A FPS with hundreds of options and a team that you build over months and years of play. Various archtypes (vehicle, drones, sniper, close combat, spy, heavy weapon, demolitions, etc.). Destroyable playfield (the demolitions should be able to make a new doorway, ...

Its probably already been stated, but I think network-secured gaming interfaces like STEAM or IMPULSE are the way of the future, but they do need to be improved upon to make them more appealing. It makes sense to have an account with a company and be able to download any/all of your gaming library w...

Sure the above post has a WoW tint, but I have played many MMORPGs: Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heroes, Anarchy Online, World of Warcraft, and Age of Conan off the top of my head.

All of them (IMHO) could be improved by most if not all of the above requests.
