Re: Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

Overdrive only has 'Off, normal, and extreme', and both normal and extreme disable brightness control, AND slightly dim the display. I do not notice any flicker with the 'wave hand in front of monitor test' (with the GW2250, my fingers would strobe). Well, at 120Hz or higher you won't easily notice...

Re: Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

Incredibly, my 2-month-old ASUS XG27VQ has now failed in the exact same manner that the Samsungs before did. Dark pixels show bright blue or purple just like in this video . I'm pretty sure this monitor uses a Samsung panel, so clearly the issue is with the panels then. Time to do the RMA rigamarole...

Re: Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

I'm curious that you didn't simply buy another one, as it seems like the hubbub around the QA issues have died down recently. I think that's more because the monitors aren't new anymore, heh. I doubt the problems were ever "QA" issues and not "design flaws." But I could be wrong...

Re: Ergonomic "gaming" keyboard. Does it exist?

I'll be posting up a review of the Kinesis Freestyle Edge before too much longer. It's a split-type ergonomic tenkeyless gaming keyboard with Cherry MX switches that supports an optional lift kit which can decline the halves outward by 5, 10, or 15 degrees. I don't have the full review ready yet, bu...

Re: I need some help, gerbils! Which are the quiet consumer hard drives?

(pre-post admission: I have not read the rest of the thread) I don't have a lot to add here because I don't care much about noise and don't pay attention to it, but I will note that the Toshiba DT01ACA300 (aka HDKPC08?) drives I've been using and recommending for a few years now are inaudible in op...

Re: Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

Well, this past Friday—two days ago—I finally got my refund check. I'll spare you all the details of what I had to do to actually get it. Suffice to say it took many angry phonecalls and me mailing in an actual paper letter on my lawyer cousin's letterhead. Yeah. So anyway, now is the time for monit...

Re: Can a 144Hz display help reduce eye strain?

I found turning the brightness down to 30% has helped lessen the problem. but I still find white backgrounds just too much to look at. If brightness is causing you issues, be careful with gaming displays, especially any G-Sync monitor, or ones that have strobing features. Those tend to have ultra-b...

Re: Can a 144Hz display help reduce eye strain?

Honestly, I noticed zero difference and was pretty disappointed. From what I had read, the jump from 60 to 144 was supposed to be dramatic, like a religious experience, even for non-gaming stuff. Nuts, nope. That's interesting. I am among the category of folks who describe the move as like a religi...

Just a play on your username, boss. :) I really hope Samsung calls me today. Actually I'll be surprised if they call me within the next -week- but I'll give 'em 'til next Wednesday I guess. Re: Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

The HDMI input on the CFG70 supports 120-Hz operation, but not 144-Hz. It'll do FreeSync over HDMI too. The 1/8" audio jack only works when you're using DisplayPort with a device that doesn't support sending audio over DisplayPort. Anyway, no response from my Executive Care Administrator. I'll ...

Re: Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

I'm planning on purchasing a new monitor in the next few months and the Samsung C27FG70 was on my list. It was low on the list because of the low 1920x1080 resolution for a 27 inch monitor. I'm looking for one with 2560x1440 resolution and Freesync like the Asus MG278Q, 279Q or Nixeus EDG 27. The S...

I also disagree with you on the "Samsung has courage" part. If they had courage they would've stood behind the product. If they leave customers like you twisting in the wind when their gamble doesn't work out, that's not courage, that's just greedy/sleazy. At least they seem to have done ...

Anyone can make an amazing sounding product on paper. Fewer can make a product that actually lives up to those specs in real life. If you can't manufacture it in a way that delivers that performance consistently and reliably, it isn't worth squat. You're not wrong about that for sure. There's anoth...

Samsung C24FG70—best monitor, worst support

This is gonna be SUPER long, so here's the TL;DR— I bought a Samsung C24FG70 in February, and it is the best monitor I have ever owned. Now in June, after having spent less than a month cumulatively with the working monitor, I am attempting to get a refund from Samsung because they have the worst po...

The Bayonetta port is basically flawless, issues on FX CPUs notwithstanding. It even has great control configuration options, which is very impressive.

Re: O Tech Report, Tech Report, wherefore art thou Tech Report?

I think part of the problem is that the whole PC industry has been in quite a rut lately; CPUs have been pretty uninteresting since Nehalem and Sandy Bridge, GPUs were pretty uninteresting during the Long Winter of 28nm (although the Maxwell arch stands out a bit), and that's pretty much all I care...

Re: Out of memory, close X program (or crashes)

Make sure your pagefile isn't disabled or otherwise misconfigured. That's the most common cause of these "out of memory" errors on Windows. Even if you haven't done it yourself, certain software (notably Samsung's SSD software) can make wacky changes to your pagefile settings. Go in there ...
