Re: CPU Clock Boost to max without load

Check Power options (in Control Panel), if set to High Performance, try using a Balanced profile. Sounds like something is keeping it from stepping down. This does fix the problem, but the CPU is now "lazy" to boost to 4.9GHz, so when I game, I just manually set it to Performace Profile. ...

Re: SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

Looking at this slide from the Optane Marketing Material: https://www.servethehome.com/intel-optane-ssd-dc-p4800x-3d-xpoint-landed/intel-optane-ssd-dc-p4800x-breakthrough-performance-qd1-8x-nand-ssd/ At Queue Depth 1, the drive is sitting just under 100 000 IOPS. Loading a game surely falls in this ...

Re: Samsung PM830 Health Status

Okay, I'm planning on using it as a Boot Drive.

The machine will be used for basic photo editing and web browsing purposes.

CPU Clock Boost to max without load

I overclocked my 3770K to 4.9GHz on water cooling using Turbo Frequency Overclocking. Normally I would see my CPU jump to 4.9GHz when I launch a game or open an Application. When in Windows 10 Desktop, with no load, the CPU normally goes idle (at around 1 to 3% utilization), then I can see the clock...

Re: SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

Is it possible that an Intel Kaby Lake CPU (i7 K-Series) + Optane SSD could show significantly better load times than what we are seeing with the current Samsung 960 Pro?

Re: SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

okay, thanks, that makes sense.

Assuming the game loading process is single threaded, having a "faster" single threaded performance cpu will give you an edge in game loading speed, rather than a faster SSD?

SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

Hi, When I read the reviews on the new NVMe SSDs, like the Samsung 960 Pro, I see that the windows boot times and load times for games are pretty much the same. Like 0.5 seconds difference between a SATA SSD and a NVMe SSD, sometimes the SATA SSD even beats the NVMe Drive with game / application loa...

Multi-GPU and V-Sync

When using V-Sync on Multi-GPU setups, does it add more problems than it solves?
