Re: Ethernet issues

More info is needed, such as what type of router, network topology, etc. Amber is usually an indication of half-duplex or a duplex mis-match, green is full-duplex or just "linked", but this can vary between mfgrs. If the router has a USB or console port, log in and check to be sure you are...

WinXP and Netbeui

WinXP does not natively support Netbeui, which Win98 uses for it's networking protocol. You must either run the "Network Setup Disk" created in the WinXP networking wizard on the 98 machine, set up 98 to run TCP/IP only as it's net protocol, or go to the MS Knowledge base and follow the instructions...

Conventional wisdom states that front fans pull in cool air, rear fans push case-warmed air out. Your PS fan is designed to work with this model. Side panel fans pull cool air onto the CPU/GPU area and are exhausted out the rear. Your friend is incorrect, airflow must always have both supply and ret...

In order to "keep it clean", i.e be vulgar in another language so as not to alarm the kidies, Gerbil Post Whore translates in latin to "Merionis epistule meretrix" - alliteration and all, what could be more fitting?

I mean after all Lickety, we old farts have to look out for each other, hehe

This has been his pattern all along and is not likely to change. The upshot is th...

MS has an OPK custom install kit, available to partners and dealers, this enables you to modify the OEM section of the OS for custom URL's, themes, apps, etc. IF you can get your hands on one of these CD's, the process is involved but very flexible. I have used it to set up OEM white boxes with grea...

Emkubed, I will agree the realism of scenic portrayal in GW is better than WoW, but what bothers me is how jerky the characters move, how they don't seem connected to the landscape (like they are walking slightly above the terrain, rather than on it), and that the whole effect to me is like the char...

I have played both WoW and GW, and find WoW to be much more immersive, and graphics-wise, better overall. The game mechanics of GW seem "clunky" in comparison as well (you can't swim, or walk up hills, etc.). Perhaps it is a case of getting what you pay for, but to me, WoW is just more polished and ...

Problems of this sort are almost always RAM. I suspect that when the PSU "went south", it took a stick of RAM along for the ride. Run a boot disk RAM tester, MEMTEST or such. The path of least resistance, and most compatible is to let windows do the install on it's own terms. Yes it must install itself on the "root" partition, there is no cure for this. In almost every case, this type of error is due to bad or incorrectly seated memory sticks. If you changed a stick to a different value one, be sure to run BIOS setup to reflect the change. I would run MEMtest on the newly inserted stick as well, as it sounds that both are defective. Always try to r...
