That kind of sucks really. I mean, i understand the reasoning but that would be like someone telling me the one copy of a music cd i can only play in one cd player.

No. It's not like that, in any single way, besides the fact they're both delivered on a shiny disc.

What would happen? Probably nothing. But why bother trying? I could put my wang in a toaster to see what'd happen, even though my toaster says "Does not work with wang". If you're curious, go for it: You're unlikey to damage anything. congrats on finding the one Intel G965 board that doesn...

Netflix was great until you had the service for more than a few months, and were a high use customer. At that point, turn around became stupidly slow. Just google "Netflix throttle" and read up on it. I switched to the 4-at-a-time/unlimited Blockbuster plan, and I love it. Decent mailing t...

With prices being so crazy low for: 1) AMD AM2 Motherboards 2) AMD X2 CPUs themselves and 3) DDR2 it's hard NOT to recommend now as a decent time to upgrade. The prices on the X2s currently just scares the hell out of me: I can upgrade my Pentium D boxes, to something much, much faster, for right ar...

oh, haha, you're talking about times when you're running the SMP client along with it... yeah, it's scary slow.

If I can catch it at the right time, I usually move the "good" Windows units from my SMP boxes to a Windows only box. Such a nice WU to go so slow :D

Yup, one of my XP boxes picked up one of the 755 point WUs as well. I only noticed it because it was using an odd amount of RAM... something like ~190MB or something, compared to 101MB with the 600 pointers.

A BIT more back on topic: My C2D finished its 2605 (yay lolz!) and got a 3027, so I switched the GPU back on. It's doing a frame every 6:30 in the GPU... which is quite impressive, IMO. The GPU is an X1900XT/512 @ 662/729... which is a lot, lot lower than I could OC it to. It seems like a very linea...

Where's the instant gratification in THAT line of thinking! Gosh man, you're no fun at all. You're the little voice in the back of my head telling me not to do that. Ragnar, you are my conscious. I agree; EM3 is a piece of crap. I'm sorry, fans of it, but it simply is. It's ugly, buggy, slow as sin, and did I mention ugly? Yeah. It's horrible. Horrible. Technically, yes, you could do it. The question/problem I think you'd face is the initial driver install/configuration. Running an ATI card and a Nvidia card would be... fun. I know there's a way to specify which GPU to run the client on, since I have a X1300Pro in my main machine, and for a moment ...

Single core Windows WUs are such a pain in the butt to graph. I've been so used to sub-24 hour turn around with the SMP client, that looking at a 186 point WU on a Windows machine, that takes more than a day makes my head hurt.

I can and may swap my X1900 in my main machine to a target machine, to see if it works. The problem is, my main monitor, the Dell 30", needs a dual-link DVI card to work. Ah. True, that is very true. At work, I generally just connect to people's PCs via Net Meeting. Old sk00l, but it works very well over the Intranet. So besides the "profiles/one click connect" kind of thing, and the ability to not log someone off with VNC, why would people use it? Just the higher security, or is there some other awesome benefit I'm missing? And speaking of one click connect, you can save Remote Desktop logins as well.

Yup. I should be ordering the card today... and if I'm lucky... have it by Friday? Maybe? Maybe not until Monday. But yeah, either way, I'll post here. VNC worked, I just tried it, however, small issue: I have a domain setup at home, and VNC doesn't appear to work without Fast User Switching, which is disabled if you're in a domain. To make it work, I basically had to login the machine on Remote Desktop, then login under VNC... so it was a wash. An...

You're right... I should check and see if VNC might work.

I've honestly not even tried it yet. I just don't want to get the cards, then be like... yeah, they're not going to work with my setup. That'd make me sad. ='(

GPU folding and remote desktop

Howdy hoo! I have a new bug: Add an X1950 Pro to all of my machines that are incapable of SMP folding (ie, 800 series Pentium Ds and a few P4s in the house). My question, however, is this: I never connect these machines up to a monitor, mostly do to logistical issues. A computer stuffed into a close...

Tonight is going to be incredibly high. Going to have at least 2 more SMP WUs getting turned in before 12am, which should account for today's score. Going to be one hell of a spike =D

They have a few large-scale corporate borgers. And they're in control of the PCs enough to load the SMP client in VMWare, and stuff like that. Not just "lol toss it on and forget" about it.
