Quite true. And at my age anything that helps the memory is good.

Re: Debian 9.1 root password

Have you tried booting into single user / recovery mode and resetting the password from there? That will be my next attempt. So far it won't accept the root password to do anything. Thought I'd ask before I floundered around too much. Thanks for the suggestion. Turns out you need the root password ...

Debian 9.1 root password

Greetings Esteemed fellow Gerbils. By chance is anyone else here fighting with Debian 9.1? Seems to be a problem with it accepting the root password that was entered at install. Ive done some searching and found it's not uncommon, but didn't find a lot in the way of answers to the problem. 9.0 had s...

Re: Do you use the Windows "Documents" folder?

On my Windows box I have two drives. The system drive is a 960 EVO m.2, storage drive is a WD blue 1TB HDD. I use the Windows library folders for temporary storage of things such as new downloads, documents currently in progress, pictures being processed, etc. My games are on the WD along with thing...

Yes, using those trailing periods is a bad habit of mine that I'm trying to fix. Apparently I need to try harder.

BTW, what is "Nyet for Pent."? It looked like some PUI text to me, or may be I'm stupid or something. :o "Not yet for Pentagon"?

Nyet is one way of saying no in Russian.

Re: Kaspersky Nyet for Pent.

I've never used Kaspersky myself. However from the opinions I've seen given by people who should know what they're talking about, it may well be a very good program. Maybe that's why the alphabet crowd (FBI,CIA,NSA,DOJ,etc.) doesn't like it. Just because it's based in Russia doesn't necessarily mean...

Flipping that point on its head, all of us are no strangers to tons of situations that could have been avoided if users would just have some common sense about their computing devices. Ohh I agree, however, "common sense" is a strange thing. I once witnessed an auto mechanic asking a lady...

Yeah, users reading documentation or "working around the system." Let me know when you meet those outside of forums like these. No offense, though, I do understand your point but it simply doesn't correlate with reality. And in all fairness, should it? It's 2017, and much like a car will ...

I have been known to consume spam and eggs when I'm in the mood. And sometimes a couple slices on bread with mustard can hit the spot.

Gears of War 4 on my PC thru Xbox. So far so good. My only complaint is that you would think that a pair of 30mm cannons would be able to shoot through a packing crate and blast the bad guy...but...nooooooo, you have to wait till he pokes his head up first. So now I got blowed up. Never fear, I'll b...

I've always wondered... given how much time has passed, is there such a thing as GNU/Not_Linux? Does the GNU project have an actual kernel? GNU/Linux must adhere to Stallman's totally and completely free philosophy. No proprietary code at all. So anything with non-free code in it is not GNU/Linux. ...
