Re: Nvidia GTX 970 VRAM Limitation

Hopefully we are past the 4GB confusion by now. To recap: The OP didn't highlight any issue with addressing 4G. but the fact that the GX970 is suffering performance issues >3.2GB, while the 980 doesnt. I dont think any game truly leverage >3GB today (its mostly texture cache) , so even if nvidia, i...

Re: Retro console gaming

My first console was the Colecovision during the early 1980's. Reading the linked article it's funny to see it was originally the Connecticut Leather Company. Atari was the leader in home consoles back then but Colecovision's home version of Donkey Kong was a hit. My other favorites on the Colecovis...

Re: X299 CPU Power Plugs/Temps (+ X399)

Haven't seen any in depth power testing on other tech sites yet, mostly general reviews of the X299 boards so far. I also noticed the different power connections between the board makers and wondering how these will compare. ASUS, ASRock and Gigabyte displayed previews of their X399's at Computex or...

Re: Intel needs to fire thier marketing team.

Or does this makes too much sense for a large corporation to do? Yes, stop making sense already :) I agree it is annoying what Intel is doing with Core-X. HEDT-CPUs should all have enough PCIe lanes to run a wide variety of add-in parts. On one hand, I do like the new X299 motherboard capabilities ...

Re: Any Spam eaters here(Yes the canned meat product)?

I keep some in the house and eat it from time to time. I agree with pps, it has a strong flavor and it's very salty. I don't know how much sodium a can has, but I suspect it's the daily allowance for a week. I like the individual foil packs they sell. Those are handy when you want to just put it on...

Re: Any Spam eaters here(Yes the canned meat product)?

Current MRE bags are rated 3 years but certain items like applesauce and cheese can already turn nasty colors like black within that time. If you can keep them cool in storage I'd still not eat anything wet after ~5 years (the dry crackers would last about forever). I can vouch for the shelf-life o...

Re: Any Spam eaters here(Yes the canned meat product)?

I'm on a low carbohydrate diet and my preferred breakfast these days is three eggs scrambled with pepper jack cheese and a cut up slice of jalapeno spam. Similar to how I grew up eating it, Spam scrambled with eggs or in an omelet or cooked for a quick sandwich. Either way it was always sliced or d...

If you look around on here I think there are a couple of threads focused on good games for very young children (the various Lego ones got a lot of ups, as I recall). Sadly the threads may be a bit out of date, though you could of course find an old console and the old games very cheap. Fun is fun; ...

I use a Transcend Drive Pro 100 and been pleased with it. It is a basic version, forward only, small size and very easy to set up. It came with a 16Gb microSD card which will do 2hrs of 1080p video in 1min to 5min increments depending how you want to record. It plugs into the lighter socket and powe...

I still have an Abit IP35Pro with a Core2Duo CPU. It was released just prior to Abit going out of business and I kept it for nostalgia. Not by much. Furthermore, Soundgarden formed in 1984, and Superunkown came out in 1994; I was still in my early 30s in 1994, which definitely qualifies as "my younger years" now. Superunknown is one of my top-five albums of all time, let alone the 1990s. Cornell's music helped form...

Re: STAR WARS TIME!

Episode 6 could have tied with Rogue One at no. 3 without the dumb ewoks-defeat-stormtroopers story. I agree that Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequels. How would you have ended it? Re: STAR WARS TIME!

Ep7 is probably the 4th best movie behind Ep5, Ep4, and R1. Just ahead of Ep6. I concur, and figure many rank it likewise. In Revenge of the Sith, I think it lost an opportunity to express Anakin's regret/remorse at the end. Instead of him waking up and acting like Frankenstein (grrr-Nooo!) it coul...

I've been pleased with the Creative Sound Blaster SBX Pro Studio (PCIe) add-in card which replaced the X-Fi series. As I've said before, The Force Awakens was partially limited because it HAD to appease old fans. Episodes 1-3 were such a mess that Disney needed to restore the faith. Since TFA was successful, they can push forward with new ideas like Rogue One . I think that this film will diverge from the origin...

The best buy in milsurps is probably the Yugo Mausers (either M48 or M24/47) chambered in 8mm Mauser. That being said, I wouldn't recommend either to a new shooter.
