Re: [AMD APU] Is it possible to underclock the CPU core only

Is it possible to underclock only the CPU core of an AMD APU like Trinity or Kaveri, without underclocking its GPU core? It's even possible to underclock the CPU core while overclocking its GPU core? More tips are welcome. Many thanks. Yes and yes. And there's an easy way to do that to with a Kaver...

Nothing. In fact, upgrading RAM, video card, and storage is always on top of my priority, while upgrading CPU is on the bottom - if it's on the list at all.

Re: Gigabyte H61N-USB3, does it have EAX on Win XP?

If you're building a legacy machine to play legacy games, and you specifically want EAX to function as intended, there is no substitute for Creative hardware. It's coupled to horrendous software, but it *is* the reference standard. I'd recommend an Audigy 2 ZS if you have a PCI slot to put it in. S...

Re: Gigabyte H61N-USB3, does it have EAX on Win XP?

I seem to recall reading that the software-based EAX for Realtek did not work very well, and only supported older versions of the EAX standard. Probably not worth the trouble. Well, this is for a legacy system anyway - to max AA and AF in old games like WarCraft III and Hostile Waters, so I'm reall...

Gigabyte H61N-USB3, does it have EAX on Win XP?

Well according to its spec, the Gigabyte H61N-USB3 has Realtek ALC889 HD, and according to Realtek website, the ALC889 HD is compatible with EAX and Aureal 3D. I'm going to use this board for my "legacy" Windows XP mini-ITX system. But pardon my stupid questions, since I've never bothered ...

Re: [TR2 700 PSU and SG08 chassis] Did I just ruin my PSU?

I was thinking more along the lines of checking it with an ohmmeter between the third prong of the plug and an exposed metal spot (like say the threads in one of the mounting screw holes). I see, thanks! :) You may have voided the warranty already, depending on whether anything got obviously bent o...

Re: [TR2 700 PSU and SG08 chassis] Did I just ruin my PSU?

No worries, I actually had a similar problem on a Seasonic G-series that I tried to fit into Bitfenix Prodigy with drive cage, well not really the same, but I had to bend and twist the native cables at some pretty cringey angles to make it fit (to the point when they were pulling on the internal co...

Re: [TR2 700 PSU and SG08 chassis] Did I just ruin my PSU?

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/fullimage.php?image=40350 To be honest, my main concern would be if the caps on the soldered connections were loosened, but that's not likely as they are fixed. You might have weakened the solder on the wiring, which could lead to trouble (maybe shorting internally) b...

Re: [TR2 700 PSU and SG08 chassis] Did I just ruin my PSU?

Hi, I'm not a power supply expert, but I don't think you would have ruined anything. From hardwaresecret's teardown of that PSU: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermaltake-TR2-700-W-Power-Supply-Review/1422/3 The cables look pretty well fixed (soldered) onto the connections and if the unit ...

[TR2 700 PSU and SG08 chassis] Did I just ruin my PSU?

So I eventually decided to use Thermaltake TR2 700 watt for my Silverstone SG08 Lite chassis. Due to the way SG08 places its PSU, and due to the PSU's IEC socket placement, the SG08's extended power cable will get bent too much, because the connector’s cable side becomes too close to the front panel...

Re: [Windows Master Volume Control] Does 100% equal unity ga

I remember in the XP days I would keep Master Volume & Application volume @ ~80% (2 page downs from full). That would give me the loudest volume while maintaining fidelity. As others have said, not an issue anymore. Side note, you can still get clipping if you use VLC's >100% volume settings. W...

Re: Roland MT-32

Pardon my late participation, but I don't think MT-32 sound banks can handle games with MT-32 sysex. It seems software emulation like Munt can do it better in that regards, and IIRC the latest version of MT-32 ROM dump Munt uses is difficult to discern from a real MT-32. As for Sound Canvas, well, ...

Re: [Windows Master Volume Control] Does 100% equal unity ga

So here's a question: where does a motherboard's HDMI output belong to? The built-in sound chip (Realtek, VIA, etc), or the integrated graphic? In every board I've seen, the integrated graphics. As far as I can tell, you can still use the HDMI out just for sound - though I haven't tested it persona...

Re: [Windows Master Volume Control] Does 100% equal unity ga

No, HDMI output is up to Windows, not the games. If an application supports multichannel directsound (as Warcraft 3 appears to: see post on this page ) then multichannel PCM, at least over HDMI, should work with any half decent receiver. S/PDIF does not support uncompressed multichannel PCM due to ...

Re: [Windows Master Volume Control] Does 100% equal unity ga

If you use multichannel PCM (for content that is not natively encoded in DD or DTS) then you shouldn't have to worry about DDL or DTS:C. For example, I have a 6-year old Denon receiver connected to a HD 4850 from 2008 via HDMI. I just select the HDMI audio source from Windows Playback Devices, make...

Re: Virtual Synth question

Thanks, but it's not boomy at all. In fact, it's articulate, although it also depends on the amp. With Sansui amps (AU-7900, A-40), the bass sounds thinner, but more accurate. With cheaper amps (like NAD C375BEE), the bass starts become boomy. Also, the Sansui outputs cleaner, more accuate HF, whil...
