Re: Grim Dawn - The Diablo 2 Successor We Deserve

I read a lot of stuff about respeccing not being a thing in PoE in this post....you get respect points, respec orbs you can use to get more. Whenever there is a major balance patch each character gets a free complete respec they can use if they want. There is another full respec almost certainly com...

Re: Do you use the Windows "Documents" folder?

1) I really dislike the document folder. Not just because I am always having to edit permissions but also because devs have all gone insane and think it's a good idea to scatter files all over the place in there. Why keeping files for a program inside that program's directory became something nobody...

If you're not getting anything on wireshark I would imagine nothing is getting through. Have you tried blocking the book of faces on your router(if you can) to make sure?

Re: Chimney-effect low-noise cases

If I get a new case I am likely going to be making my own next time. I want one where the mobo lays down flat and the case is cooled by a single 40 or 50cm fan. With a nice big CPU/GPU heatsink you could cool them both with that single fan probably. I'd probably test angling a board of some kind dow...

...Offline gaming has taken a back seat to online games... Offline gaming is thriving! Sure, it doesn't garner the same levels of obsessive mainstream mass-coverage as the endless raft of "e-sports" events, but that's "sport" for ya. I've barely touched an online game in years, ...

Valve has the money to make a good linux distro for everyone. They also have the presence to effectively force game devs to make linux ports. Who knows if they will or not but they could.

Supreme commander is pretty fun yeah. I played starcraft 2 for a while but it runs like complete garbage since the third expansion came out so it's unplayable.

Re: O Tech Report, Tech Report, wherefore art thou Tech Report?

I agree that the site isn't as good as it once was....some of this is due to having all new people, but I think a lot of it has to do with nothing really happening in the tech world. Intel releases minor CPU update after minor CPU update, AMD continues to have very little on the CPU front. However m...

AFAIK you can run kaby on W7. If there are any new instructions those will likely be effectively disabled. Probably not something you'd notice under normal circumstances, but I've never really looked into it.

Re: Delidding my 3770k -- thoughts and results

You know it sounds to me like the best option people have is when they're going to buy a new CPU to try delidding it and OCing. If they break it, well, you were going to get a new one anyways. If it works then you save a bunch of money. There isn't much to lose and a decent amount to gain. Unless so...

For you perhaps. Only the OP knows how much space they need. Same with ram. If they run out of either they will know pretty quickly. It's why I never mentioned it.

Personally I think 4TB is too small but my parents can get away with less than 15gigs.

The only thing you could grab and have it make a real difference is a 1080/1070. For games. Which I am assuming you're wanting the upgrade for.

Re: Win 10 boot followed by random monitor power offs

Just want to mention that this sort of behaviour can be caused by the monitor itself going, likely due to to the caps.

This also sounds like it's potentially caused by video driver crashes. I'd try updating your video card drivers.

Another vote for MPC-HC from me if you're a little tech savvy. VLC is a great player that I will recommend to people who are not good with computers but MPC-HC offers a number of benefits.

One of the things I do like about VLC is the audio over-volume it has though.

That's so not true. Characters don't need to do stupid things. The writers just need to be smart enough to force smart characters into bad situations. Making characters do stupid things is just bad writing.

A lot of shows fall apart really quickly as they try to extend stories that should end or they do something stupid to ensure a particular character or plot development continues ...

Anyways for the IP address you can just do 10.floor#.room#.DHCP assigned address. So a comp with the IP 10.2.3.5 would be a PC on the second floor in room 203. A PC on the fourth floor would be 10.4.x.x. You shouldn't have to make it any more complicated than that. I would recommend against doing t...

All of your control will be through the routers. Switches are there to branch connections from routers. The networks will be set at each router port. I don't know how you're set up or what equipment you have but you can keep it nice and easy and not worry about subnetting /17/18 stuff. Keeping every...
