2k 24" monitor w/ FreeSync

Do you guys have any recommendation for a 24" monitor that supports FreeSync that is 2k? All the monitors on this size I find are 1080p, and the moment a monitor goes 1080p, they grow to 27" I guess my question is, is there any benefit of 2k over 1080 at 24"? Edit: Just realized this ...

Re: TR Wikipedia article flagged for deletion

On July 7, 2019, coinciding with the release of AMD's Ryzen 3 CPUs and Navi GPUs, a site redesign was launched moving from the Tech Report's former custom CMS and functionality to a generic Wordpress template. On July 9th, and without introducing herself or explaining her role at Tech Report, Renee...

Re: cables/wires for custom USBs

That is literally what I needed! Thank you very much!! :) @superjawes: "wirey" meant that I could bend the cable in any form or shape and it would stay that way... it didn't occur to me that this would happen when I tried to remove the sleeve off the ethernet cable, but welp - yeah didn't ...

cables/wires for custom USBs

So I'm trying to make my own USB cables (including sleeving) but I am having issues finding the right cable to use. I used ethernet core wires to make a test cable, and the end result ended up feeling very "wire-y" and not like an actual cable. Would you know what type of cable would be be...

Re: Something's different...

I don't blame you for feeling that way, I ran the same searches when I found out. Dubious is probably the word of the day, and the redesign launch was a painful reminder of how I first felt. That said, editorially, the existing writers have the same autonomy as ever and the site has additional reso...

Re: Something's different...

Couple of extra suggestions:
  • The article's text is way too big for 1080p imho, perhaps a couple points smaller would be better
  • The article navigation now only shows numbers. I appreciated the previous navigation format with drop down lists and description of the pages

I agree with the information density - perhaps a little bit more content in the desktop version of the site would be good, but on my phone it is great!
Also, I've noticed that there are no ads in the site, and the forums have this "GZIP: On" message at the bottom

Re: How many devices can go through a USB 3.0 connection?

Thankfully I had to do a Visio off this thing (because I was getting lost with the cables): https://i.imgur.com/kzwmvRil.jpg My idea is that with a button I can swap all the desk necessities (excluding the monitors) between my laptop and desktop with the switch itself (has a 2.5mm button that allows...

Re: How many devices can go through a USB 3.0 connection?

It's very difficult to know how much juice you can reliably pull from a USB port on many devices. I recommend dumping your switch/docks/whatever and going with a single high-quality hub like this Anker 10-Port 60W model . That looks great, but it wouldn't allow me to switch between my Desktop to my...

The switch does not, however it does take an additional 5v power input through USB and it’s currently plugged in. It’s only the Targus dock that has that robustness or so to say

Oh that will work for sure (I have an MBP), I am trying to look for a single-cable solution (right now stuck at two). This is just a thought exercise, got me curious enough to wonder how feasible this would be

How many devices can go through a USB 3.0 connection?

I have a laptop and a desktop that I use with the same desk setup (including keyboard, mouse, headphone/DAC, dedicated microphone, card readers) all connected through a single USB 3.0 switch (i.e. think of a KVM but only USB). Now I'm trying to connect a webcam (Razer Kiyo) to this setup, however, w...

"A Sharper Scaling" on that page could be quite useful for upscaling those pesky tiny images one might run into from time to time. This note on the sharper scaling tool is a bit scary: When I try to run the installer, there's a malware alert from my security software or operating system. ...

Re: Mitsubishi's Verbatim, Known for Optical Media, Sold to CMC

A proper BluRay writer is the missing link. We've had a few test machines in house that write BluRays with a retention/durability of 50+ years. The drives themselves aren't super expensive, even in prototype form they were only $500...and keep in mind that includes 16 (yes, 16) lasers for reading/w...

That's a very good point - I would love to be able to archive my family photos to a medium that's not optical (my family already moved on from any optical/mechanical medium) and not store these pics in any cloud server (Privacy).

Re: Help! I'm looking for a Thunderbolt Hub with...

I actually have a couple of memory card readers already. I'm thinking about how many devices I will need to pack up (and then keep track of) when it's time to travel. All of these docks already add a power supply and two cables (one for power and one for data) to what I already have today, so reduc...

Also, it's worth noting that not all fats are created equal. There have been some preliminary studies indicating that the body handles fats from natural food (meats, avocados, etc.) well, likely as a result of evolution. OTOH, the body does not necessarily know how to handle fats not found in natur...

Maybe you could find a leftover satellite on eBay. That's the first thing I'd do. Those are much nicer than mine; I'm still using Logitech's X-530 set. Which I got new, on clearance, for $30 shipped free, probably around ten years ago now. They're still going strong. Ah the X-530, I bought this at ...
