Well. . . I got Avast on CD from a mate's PC, uninstalled AVG, installed Avast and rebooted to complete the install (all from safe mode). My PC then booted into Windows fine (I forgot to press F8, lol). I updated Avast and set the resident protection (or whatever it calls itself) to high, then scann...

Many thanks, will try Avast first and have a look. Then the other options if that doesn't work. And can anyone confirm deleting winlogon is safe/possible?

Trojan :(

Sorry to bother y'all but I've run out of ideas here Something calling itself "Flooder.AKE" has infected my PC and is stopping me booting normally (safe mode works). The virus (well, trojan) has infected the "winlogon.exe" application, which now gives a "Windows Logon Process system process terminat...

Usually its safer to flash your bios thru the utility supplied on the cd that came with your board. It saves the boot blocks in case of failure so you can revert back to the old bios without difficulty. Aye but given a choice between bending pins back and swapping out CPUs to get into windows or us...

Well several hours, a lot a stress and tedium and one bust floppy drive later all is well, the X2 is purring and task man has a process-gasmic extra graph on it. The flash worked fine first time, windows booted up fine and just required a restart to get the second core detected. Just a shame the Eve...

Guess you did not read JAE's first sentence of his post then. :( I did, I'm just stupid. Like I said in general the less important stuff you change the less will go wrong (stupid attitude, I know), and I've been busy, so as people were saying it would work anyway I gave it a miss. I know doing thin...

Well having very little free time atm and figuring that the fewer things I changed the less likely things were to do wrong I didn't update the bios. Put the proc in today and it's not being recognised. The first startup screen (where is says memtest and stuff) is calling the CPU something like "AMD ...

939 X2 Upgrade

Firstly: I had a quick look about google and these forums to see if this was posted anywhere else but I couldn't find a clear guide, so appologies if this is somewhere obvious, feel free to mock me. Secondly not sure if this needs to be in AMD asylum or here, so sorry if it's in the wrong place. Rig...

Clueless and want to setup a wireless network :)

Ok I just moved to University and want to set up a wireless network for LAN only (mainly gaming) with a mate's computer a few flats away. However I'm totally clueless as to whether this is possible (given the distance) and what equipment we need to set this up. To reiterate: we don't need a net conn...

O.M.F.G.

Errrrm, hi. Ok, it may be kinda hard to tell where this is going for a bit but bear with me. . . I play Eve Online rather a lot. Perhaps even more than I thought if something I've just seen is to be believed. I also have a £280 19" TFT monitor which I rather like. . . I noticed some odd anomolies on...

Ok, much thankage all :) EDIT: Installed and working fine without complication or complaint. . . And it sounds lovely, everything's much fuller and more bassy. Correct procedure to install sound card?

So my new, cheap OEM Audigy got here today, and I realised I'm not really sure how I should be installing it onto the my PC, built about 4 months ago. While I'm quite capable of cracking the thing open and shoving the card into it's comfortable new PCI slot, the order I should do things like (un)ins...

Trouble booting.

Well I've got me new rig (specs'll be in sig in a sec) and Far Cry is looking mighty fine at 1280x1024 with everything else maxed out on the 19". . . However, a couple of days ago I started having trouble booting. About 19/20 times (at a guess) the computer boots as far as the "Windows XP Profession...

We're up and running! The drivers from DFI did the trick, so thanks especially to JAE and also to anyone that gave advice. I'm posing from the beast now. . . So far I've run the BF2 demo on full settings (offline) with no hint of a slowdown :D:D:D.

Double-check that you downloaded the files for WinXP rather than the 64-bit version or the Linux version. DFI lumps all of their driver files together in one big list rather than sorting by operating system. I do not know how you need to have the directory structure set up on the floppy for the Win...

Try downloading the SATA drivers from the DFI website and making a new floppy diskette? Ok, I did this, and put the files on the floppy. Still can't use F6 to install the drivers. However, when it comes to disk 4 of the floppy installation procedure, and diplays the "SETUP WAS UNABLE TO LOAD SUPPOR...

The only partition available is 131MB in size. I haven't got a clue what this is or what it means at all, except that I find it very unlikely thjat it's my H/D. Hmm... did you get a "Press a key to boot from CD" message when it is booting with the CD in the drive? If that message is there you do need to hit a key.
