I feel bad for you guys having to duck and cover from all the fanmail the last two days...hopefully the team and the community sticks together and helps create a site that emphasizes the community and the conversation the way TR always has.

Re: 16 COARZ.... Not announced by AMD

The pre-announcement buzz I heard seems to mostly have been true, concerning boost frequency range and that AMD is now the certified IPC champ. But I think I heard "5.0 soon" so often I kind of wanted it to be true. The boost of the 65W TDP 3700x is within 100 MHz of the 105W TDP 3800x.

Re: Radeon VII or wait for Navi?

Waiting is smart right now. Prices for anything beyond the RTX 2060/Vega 56/1070 bracket are irrationally high relative to the extra performance gained by upgrading. It's doubtful you'd be able to sell your 1070 for a reasonable percentage of its worth, because the resale market's still flooded wit...

Re: TR Gerbil's Choice Review I - Poll is live!

If you're going to call it a "grudge match" I can't resist that option. But it better end with drive failure, living up to the TR SSD endurance testing marathon. Or else the loser being stomped a la the Office Space copier.

Nope. But I still have a soft spot for those audiophile ethernet cables that I recall have been "discussed" here previously. While the starting length is a bit restrictive at 0.75m, fear not. An upgrade to double that length is a mere $600 extra.

Was letting myself build a little hype for Rage 2 but I'm reading reviews that compare it unfavorably to Avalanche's Mad Max game (which I love). Sounds like a steep discount buy only. Meanwhile Quake Champions staggers on... The backlog right now is Environmental Station Alpha, Atom RPG, then...

Michael sure turned into a monster almost overnight. The track is within 60 miles of my in-laws house, so they are in the process of bugging out. I like 2 types of games the most: - Tower Defence - e.g. Baloon Tower Defence - Sniper - Hitman:Sniper Did you ever play Defense Grid ? It and its sequel were the most entertaining tower defense games I've ever played. I figure that, if you're a fan, you'd have seen them by now, but it's always pos...

Sounds scary! I'm concerned about the lifetime of the electronics in newer vehicles. And the availability of people with the know-how to fix them - since in your case it sounds like the dealer told you to shove off.

Never thought I'd be nostalgic for the 'print the 5 characters from the box' captcha. The picture captchas are infuriating, especially on non-standard browsers. Not sure why that makes a difference but it seems to require extra clicks.

Re: AMD just whipped out a huge package!

In all fairness, for a certain market, packaging sells. In the consumer PC space where everything is lit up and rainbow-ecstasy flavored, unique packaging design can go a long way for the brand. Most threadripper builds I’ve seen online are ‘dudes’ with too much money who get ‘stoked’ on the beefies...

Pillars of Eternity, which I'm really enjoying, especially the writing. The last game of this type I played was Baldur's Gate a long while back and this is IMO so much better. Plus it's got an Easter egg where you can get a miniature giant space piglet as your pet. :P If you like Pillars and like l...

Re: Good time to build?

For cases, I really like the look of the Raijintek Styx or Metis. By all accounts they can be frustrating to build in and have mediocre to poor airflow, but I love the aesthetic, especially without the case window. Dimensions in inches: Sytx (Micro ATX) 13.06 x 8.19 x 14.04 Metis (Mini ITX) 7.48 x 1...

Bilbo Baggins is great! Right around the corner from my folks' place. if I remember right there's some zoning reason there's not many actual breweries in DC itself, despite the size of the craft-beer-drinking population.

A Schiit Fulla 2. My first and only experiment with a standalone DAC (or DAC/amp, in this case). A $100 volume knob. $100 for a quality external DAC with flexible input and output options doesn't seem out of line to me. Depending on the quality of your previous DAC, the headphones/speakers you are ...
