Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Reciprocate, by Rationale. Severely underrated artist with a gorgeous voice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKttcxlzw5o Speaking of gorgeous voices, stumbled upon this study earlier today, showing how quickly top musicians make average salaries. Thought I'd share here since there is no other music t...

Re: How bad is Windows 10 Really?

Upgraded to Windows 10 after last years ransomware attack worldwide, then I was using the windows 7. Regretted not upgrading at that time. So far the windows 10 is working perfectly fine, not as such issues faced as yet. Just wait until you try to start your computer one morning and see nothing but...

Re: Performance benefits of upgrading RAM worth the price?

With laptops, sometimes they'll hide another SO-DIMM slot in a less user-accessible location. If you're sure that it's an 8GB module and the system only has 8GB, it sounds like you weren't so lucky. Yeah, that's exactly it. It was a Lenovo laptop that wasn't particularly cheap and had its keyboard ...

Re: Performance benefits of upgrading RAM worth the price?

I assume you have like 16GB of RAM in total? 8GB soldered and 8GB in a single slot? If all your RAM is from the single 8GB stick then your laptop is running in single channel mode and that's a horrible design decision by whichever company made it. Even on an i3-class machine the benefits of going f...

Re: Annoying marketing trend

My dad was nearly misled by this marketing chicanery. He was in the market for a new laptop. I told him I'll help him buy one when I visit home, but he went ahead and got one anyways. Called me from the store and bragged that he got a "great deal" on a HP laptop with 24GB of memory. I told...

Performance benefits of upgrading RAM worth the price?

My laptop has a single RAM slot that currently has 8GB of DDR4 RAM. Performance has been laggy of late, especially when dealing with intensive applications like Photoshop (it's an i7 @ 2.8Ghz, GeForce 940MX card). I figured one of the culprits is the HDD which I'm soon going to replace with an SSD. ...

Re: Two specific programs take ages to launch, even after reformat

Do not underestimate the effect of latency. While STR is typically off by only a single-digit factor between SSD and HDD, seek latency can be a killer. Unless you are dealing with pure sequential workloads you are potentially looking at orders of magnitude performance differences. I flipped over my...

Re: A good, cheap, wireless gaming keyboard?

I am indeed! It's really nice to type in it! I love it! It is very modest-looking compared to other gaming keyboards (NO RGB WOOOT!), Thank you! I'm adding it to my wishlist based on your recommendation. I have a pretty basic wired mechanical keyboard with Long Hua blue switches. It's okay but I do...

Re: A good, cheap, wireless gaming keyboard?

If you're looking for a real wireless GAMING keyboard, you're looking at a minimum of $100+. I have a Logitech G613 and I would say it's the best wireless keyboard I've ever tried (6 month battery life ftw). However, if you're looking into a cheap wireless keyboard - I've had good experiences with ...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Obvious pitch is obvious, but I do rather like the message. Millennials in particular would be well served spending a lot less time crying about the officially designated but largely irrelevant moral outrage of the week on social media, and more time learning a valuable skill and doing something us...

Re: Two specific programs take ages to launch, even after reformat

I'm at a complete loss on this one. Both Steam and one other specific game take at least a minute to start. . I have the same problem with Steam but only on my laptop (runs fine on the desktop). My laptop is an i7 with 8GB RAM and Nvidia 940MX graphics card. The desktop is an i7 9700k with 16BG RAM...

Re: Bad eye strain with new monitor

Two things drastically reduced my eye strained from my monitor: 1. F.lux: This little piece of software changes your screen brightness in accordance with the amount of light in your location (based on sunrise/sunset times). It really transforms the computing experience to the point that I can't work...
