Re: BF4 Mantle Thread

A GPU13 slide said Mantle was being implemented primarily by an AMD team with assistance and feedback from DICE/Frostbite. Just imagine the level of histrionic outrage that we'd be hearing if Nvidia were to have its own developers basically rewriting the software for a major AAA game release to spe...

AMD R9 cards rule in BF4 [H] Benchmarks BF4 Multiplayer

Reply Silus Nov 1506:17 AM +--3 #21 If this had been done by NVIDIA; this section would have over 200 comments and the large, very large AMD fan base that TR has, would be shouting bloody murder!!! But it's just AMD lying / misleading their own customers, so it's "ok". Also, it's hilariou...

Re: AMD Hawaii R9-290X GPU

They have a unique opportunity to pull a "4870" here and have R9 290X retail at $499 ish. That would really energize the market and AMD would win a lot of 'hearts and minds" again while giving a big shock to NVidia like they experienced with the way over priced GTX260 shortly after t...

Re: AMD Hawaii R9-290X GPU

My concern with this card is that it's brute-forcing the lead with an expensive 512-bit design and physically huge GPU, rather than architectural or process improvements that increase performance/cost. I'm not really concerned about the top SKU, that's for the 1% of people who are interested in per...

Re: Tom Clancy Has Passed Away.

Another great techno thriller from that era was "Flight of the Old Dog" by Dale Brown. This is an awesome book, I enjoyed it immensely. I also wonder why it never made it into movie form... I'd also highly recommend "Cauldron" and "Vortex" by Larry Bond. Both are brill...

Re: Tom Clancy Has Passed Away.

It's sad that he's no longer around to write neat stuff. The Red October/Jack Ryan series was great up until Debt of Honor ended in a surreal alternate universe. I really immersed myself in Red Storm Rising. The only other military fiction equalling it in scope and detail was "The Third World ...

Re: TOM CLANCY HAS DIED!

He wrote one good novel, a few decent ones and a lot of crappy ones. Which is his one good novel? I haven't read any of his books yet. I am curious how he died because 66 seems young. Some kind of fast cancer perhaps? RIP Tom,you were very good once. My personal favorite is Red Storm Rising....a re...

Re: AMD's beta CX driver: A day late but hopefully not a $ s

My Sapphire HD7970 is sitting in drawer. I gave up on AMD at least for now. No physics and worst of all no support for Metro games. Ever since I started using Titan I noticed the following: * Metro and Gears Of War dynamic light effects are not even rendered in some areas on Radeon. * Particle effe...

Re: Just joined the GeForce

TR's review sample also had only 128MB of memory: http://techreport.com/review/5768/ati-radeon-9600-xt-graphics-card/2 None of that would ever touch the Radeon 9500 Pro, which I had with a flashed BIOS to enable the dormant memory controllers, so it was basically a Radeon 9700 that I got for like $...

BTW, the 8600XT I had only has 128MB VRAM, not 256MB VRAM.

That points to too little Video RAM (the HD3450 has 512MB; the 9600XT has 128MB).

riviera74

What are you on about?...the 8600XT :-?
The 9600XT had 256MB of VRAM.

Re: Just joined the GeForce

To answer the fan vs. video card question, the fan seized up and died. The video card itself stopped sending a clean signal once I got to the Windows XP splash screen. The color would go bad and then the picture itself would deteriorate and the system would not boot at all. I then replaced that HD3...

moving Outlook Express

Hi Guys,What's the easiest/best way to move my friend's email (Outlook Express, with contacts, addresses etc) from Windows XP 32 bit to a new machine running Windows 7 64 bit?
He has an external drive available and wants to use the inbuilt mail client on the new machine.
Thanks,
FP
