Re: General photography thread [img heavy]

Thanks! The girl wasn't that high from the ground really, I took the photo from near ground level to avoid the crowd filling the background.. and still had to clone a few away :) A few weeks ago nearby rapids were drained empty to repair dam walls. Some fish were left in small pools when water went....

Re: What exact specs to look for in a lens?

For me JPG is like a print: a final photo which you have to live with. If something went wrong.. well too bad, you need to reshoot and hope the next "print" will be better. If not, then reshoot again and again. With RAW you will have the original "negative" and you can tweak it a...

Re: Building a Raid using the ICHR10

Thanks for the info. It seems that Vista SP1 supports GPT, which in turn supports more than 2TB bootable partitions... but it requires EFI instead of normal BIOS.

Anyways, it won't be a problem since only the boot partition must be under 2TB.

Re: Building a Raid using the ICHR10

Does that 2TB restrcition imply that I can't have a 2TB partition on my array if I want to boot Vista from the same array? If yes, then I suppose it's ok to have, for example, n+1 1TB partitions on same array so Vista should boot from it OK? I'm planning to get 5x640GB disks for raid5 and install os...

When are PCI, PS2, COM etc. going to die?

I looked through some X58 prototype motherboard pictures, and they all still seem to have at least one pci & ps2 connection left. I hoped they would finally get rid of all the legacy stuff which has been floating around for ages, but seems manufacturers think people still need those. Hopefully t...

Heh. I've flashed a custom edited bios with Vista, and it worked :o

By the way, will the computer hang immediately if the bios flash goes awry? Can't you keep using the computer normally till next boot?

It depends on software and hardware you want to use. Some of the software I have doesn't work in x64, and also most drivers I have suck already in 32-bit (nvidia forceware, creative audigy). I have 4GB of memory, but can only use 3GB because 32-bit Vista doesn't support more. I'd like to install 64-...

SAV 10 is an excellent product.

Does anyone have an idea how good its replacement, Symantec Endpoint (basically sav 11 + other security stuff) is?

Dual core with 80 betas

If someone has AMD X2 processor or any other dual core system, please test if these new drivers give more performance with dual core systems :) Nvidia promised 5-30% more power when gpu offloads some tasks to the 2nd cpu with the new 80-series driver.
