Re: Intel Processor bug incoming?

Just as a note, via the Linux Kernel Mailing List there may be perf hits to AMD systems on the official patch (4.14.11, I believe) unless this patch actually made it into the baseline for 4.14.11 (forgive me, I don't typically try to read the patch tree for the linux kernel). You'll apparently be ab...

I love rivalry week. Always full of chaos!

It also helps when we've won 12 of the last 13 games against Michigan.

I know this doesn't really contribute much, but as a related bit of history/trivia re: x87

Comment #109 is pretty humorous (it's actually taped on my wall out of frustration with floating point some days).

I watched some of it--they were flat horrible from the whistle. The game was only close at the half because they had a fumble-recovery-for-touchdown.

Re: New Ryzen 7 mATX Build

Hey all, just so everyone is aware, I got everything up and running last night. I won't say it went perfectly, of course... I'm working on a write up that will encompass both some of the things already discussed here and new stuff. I will also update the write-up with additional benchmarks in a coup...

It's a good thought, but the radiator interferes with all the DIMM slots and not just the first 1 :(

Re: New Ryzen 7 mATX Build

I'll have a longer update tonight, but I wanted to put a quick note in. The motherboard (last piece I was waiting on!) was delivered yesterday evening. I'm behind on the benchmarks I wanted to cover on my old system before I move the SSD and GPU to the new system (I plan on doing old vs. new vs. (ne...

Re: Nvidia Geforce Experience Security Vulnerability

I feel like almost nobody writes real code any more. Most applications are developed by duct taping a bunch of canned libraries together, with only a superficial understanding of what's really going on. While this typically results in quicker development turnaround, it also results in a horribly bl...

Thanks for the quick replies all! JAE: It's a 1TB drive because I already have a NAS (which I'll be expanding from 4TB here shortly) that does most of my other bulk storage. I'd buy an even smaller one, but I don't feel it's worth it. I mostly use it to store games I don't play frequently/don't care...

New Ryzen 7 mATX Build

All, Well, I've had about enough of sitting on this gigantic Antec P280 case. I've decided that now is the time to build myself a new computer. I'll be reusing the 500GB 850 Evo that has served dutifully in the existing machine (signature). I will also reutilize the Xonar sound card for the time bei...

To plus-one on the Fluance recommendations, I have a pair of SX6's ( this pair, but mine are a lighter brown that I love. Wait, what? Are you saying he knows you are taking a ~6k loss on the loan and just expects you to eat it? Yes! I forgot that no sat has ever been updated from ground control before. Never. Spirit still runs the same source as when it launched. Same with Opport...

Re: Drove a sports car for the first time! Amazing!

Yeah, it's a coupe - are the coupe and sedan options notably different on those? With my 05 Civic, the engine, tranny (all of the guts actually), and size of the car are the same - the coupe just has slightly different headlights/taillights and 2 fewer doors. I couldn't figure out why anyone would ...

Curiously, one of my friends has a 2011 Genesis, he drives it and mods it hard, and 2nd gear doesn't engage properly (bad synchros?). At least the Civic does that well. Given that you said your friend put mods on, I'm assuming it's a 2011 Coupe; in which case, I can tell you that it's because the m...

The only Ford I've ever owned (a Tempo, early 1990s model year IIRC) was an unmitigated disaster as well. Ford earned a permanent spot at the top of my "avoid" list as a result of that vehicle. Never again! It was purchased used, and within a year I ditched it by trading it in. My mom had...

Ugg that time of the year for appraisals. I hate objectives that are team/division related that I have no direct control over. :-? Why is it that people seem to have so much trouble actually RSVPing by the date on the damn wedding invitation? WE PUT IT THERE FOR A REASON PEOPLE. It's even just a website! (Unless they were old, then we gave them a paper one). :x

Just to throw this out there--my team lead recently bought a new car, and ended up test driving both the Mazda 3 and 6. He ended up going for the 6 because it was basically the same feel, etc. in terms of driving, but it looks slightly better (The 3 looks really...weird now), has a bit more leg room...

Well, I ended up buying the Acer monitor (it was still $300 on Amazon). I also bought a new 1TB drive to replace my aging Samsung Spinpoint drive. 3 years is starting to get old enough I worry about it failing. So the new fun is that on top of the monitor randomly shutting itself off, I had all my O...
