Re: computer suddenly turns off

thanks for responding. So I went back into the Event Viewer. I didn't see any errors under system. There were a bunch of information messages. Under Summary of Administrative Events, I did see 1 critical error and it said "Kernel-Power". But I think this was my fault. I was packing up the ...

Re: computer suddenly turns off

So it may be the PSU. I grabbed an old 850W one from storage and the system seems stable with it. But I'm wondering if it's just the PSU that was the problem or if some other factor caused that PSU to fail because it's a very new PSU.

computer suddenly turns off

Okay, so I've had a stable build for months. I've done multiple day video renders. I've done gaming. Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. Computer ran perfectly. All of sudden, today, I've had the computer shut down on me multiple times. So what happens is I'll just be using the computer normall...

thanks for all the help. really appreciate it and I'll keep your techniques in mind when stuff like this happens. In fact, I'm bookmarking this thread so I can refer to it. I'm not particularly well-versed in networking so stuff like this helps me learn. So about 2 hours after I posted this thread, ...

DNS puzzle. can't access 1 website

I've been wracking my brain over this problem. I have no idea what to do anymore. So, my friend told me she couldn't go to stamps.com on her computer at work. I try it on my computer and I can't access that website either. However, we can access pretty much all other websites. So then I try the basi...

Re: AotS Ryzen patch

I don't want to be mean or anything, I really want AMD to succeed here, but it seems like what we have is Intel CPUs working really well out of the box, but we'll have to wait for game devs to patch games to maximize performance on Ryzen. That seems to be a tall order unfortunately, since it's just...

Re: AMD Ryzen 1800X temperature reading - subtract 20C???

So here is what CPUID HWMonitor is reporting... So just to be clear, I'm supposed to subtract 20C off the temps... I haven't used this kind of software in awhile so if there's a kind soul out there with an 1800X that can chime in on my numbers and whether they're normal for an 1800X, I would very mu...

Re: AMD Ryzen 1800X temperature reading - subtract 20C???

I couldn't believe they would do something like that, but here it is, on their website: https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2017/03/13/amd-ryzen-community-update Temperature Reporting The primary temperature reporting sensor of the AMD Ryzen™ processor is a sensor called “T Control,” or...

AMD Ryzen 1800X temperature reading - subtract 20C???

Okay, so I have my Ryzen 1800X fully up, armed, and operational. And in the BIOS, the CPU temp is reading as 60C? Is this the normal temp? I read that AMD says we're supposed to take 20C off the reading to get the true reading? I have the Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 CPU cooler, Gigabyte GA-AX370 Gaming K7 ...

thanks for the explanation! it was really insightful. my next thing is this... the now-dead PSU has a great functional fan. it just started making noise like a few days ago. it was silent for a year or so now. I even dusted out the system before that recently.

well, if it's just an annoyance rather than a failing device, I can live with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1gnsRddWOk I'm not sure it'll come through well in the video... it starts at the 0:03 mark (3 seconds). it sounds really weird and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the power supply. the sound is stronger when I'm running the CPU at 100% (like a video encode). it soun...

Re: how to measure DVD drive power under full speed

So, a DVD-12X drive could attempt to spin the disk in excess of 18,000 RPM at the inner tracks, which for comparison, is roughly 1.8 times the speed of a large jet turbine, and about the same as a Dremel tool operating at half-speed. ...and more than double the speed of a typical consumer hard driv...

Re: how to measure DVD drive power under full speed

wow. I learn so much from you guys... :D

well, if the limit of a power cable is 5 W, I guess that's the answer there.

as for the speed, are modern drives CAV or CLV? and doesn't the outside of the disc spin faster and read data faster as a result?

how to measure DVD drive power under full speed

is there any easy way (without having any measuring hardware device) to calculate how much a DVD drive uses for a computer or console under full speed? like an Xbox 360 game spinning at 12X sounds like a jet and sounds like it consumes a lot of power.

I hope it's a stale entry. I looked everywhere for a feature to remove a system. I'll dig more but I see no option to kick a system off the network. I can't believe a router would not have that option. You think a $200 router would have that feature! Anyways, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'll start i...

Re: MAC Address filtering across multiple access points

I'm a little confused about what you mean by "filtering based on the WPA key". Yes, there's a WPA2/AES password on each of the routers. The issue is we're renting out a room and we told him he can have one device on the network. But we don't want him to have multiple devices on the network...

if that's the case, I'll just forget those buttons.

the left and right ones are the most important anyway.

now time to google how to solder suck... that just sounds so wrong.
