Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

A little surprised the PNY was that bad. While I wouldn't consider them to be a premium brand, they're generally "good enough". Yeah, not sure what to make of that. May have just been a defective controller overheating after sustained use. In any case, I've generally had good performance ...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Went 0 for 2 on tech purchases this week. The first was a PNY high-speed 128GB flash drive on sale at Office Depot. Kept disconnecting from the host system during file copy operations. Ended up returning that one and going for a 64GB SanDisk Ultra instead. The second was that $25 Faux-Pro "HD W...

Re: LED Light for Snowblower

The existence of a chassis ground on the LED light will be a definite wildcard. The construction of the light linked by OP suggests one of those generic Chinesium affairs where they never connect the chassis to anything, even in cases such as e.g. aluminum bodied, 120V LED ballasts where it SHOULD b...

Producing quality video content takes time and money. Why not just make normal podcast videos? No need for special effects or editing. Just impromptu videos that glow with honesty. Even leave the bloopers in to make them fun to watch. They can start off small and progress to increasing length depen...

I just like SoR3 better. Better music, better range of villains, a bit more polish on the character sprites, and the player(s) can run as well as walk.

Our not-quite-6mo daughter has reached the phase where she hangs out her tongue for long spells which, combined with the usual infant congestion, results in a lot of panting.

Just another exciting way that infants and toddlers are a lot like housepets.

Re: New lens, or new camera?

Additional update: I had noticed that the Canon 28-135 seemed just slightly slow on focusing compared to what I remembered from the old days. When adapted to the Olympus body, it has a tendency to overshoot the correct focus range a bit farther than you would expect, then come back for a corrective ...

Granted this is all on the assumption that the owners have a master plan/vision for the site that they are working toward (which I'm skeptical of), but there's a ton of good material to draw in viewers and reader interest with the audio realm. Podcasting setups, microphones, DAW software, etc, are ...

I've used the DC-DC converter that SecretSquirrel linked a few times and can vouch for its usefulness. You can also reduce the filter cap sizing when using it, since the converter is capable of eating some input ripple. This here is your visual shopping list, other than a couple cord grommets not pi...

Not judging even if he had. It's getting pretty tricky to build an affordable system these days if you intend to be at least nominally legal on the software side.

Glad to hear it! Is the flare across the whole image or just the outsides? Nothing terrible for a lens design that's old enough to drink this year, and which has a full-frame front glass exposure. When a point source is within range of the lens, there are a couple green artifacts chasing each other...

I'm dreading my next smartphone upgrade since the non-removable battery will mean the only way for me to force a true hard reset will be to let the battery run all the way down. Re: soundcard showing as unplugged

I have mixed feelings about this thread. On one hand, it's pretty cool that modern PCs have become so stable, we don't immediately reach for the power cord as a troubleshooting measure. On the other hand, things do lock up sometimes, so if you're asking for help and have NOT yet tried the power cord...

You're going through my old camera bag! Except I was using the 7D body. IIRC at my peak I had the 70-200 f/2.8L, the 85 f/1.8, the 50 f/1.4, the 20mm f/2.8, the 12mm f/2.8 fisheye, and the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS as a walkaround. Unfortunately, marriage followed immediately by expensive car problems tor...

Hard to know exactly what's going on unless you can list the model of laptop, and provide a link to the RAM you bought. Re: New lens, or new camera?

I do remember the 70-200 f/2.8 quite fondly. That was the one lens I most regretted having to sell back when I downsized from Canon to m43 a few years back. And if you're using it on a crop body, the gen1 lens' distortions at the corners all but disappear.

Re: New lens, or new camera?

Second update: The Meike lens does pretty well, but it's awfully tricky to do a manual-only focus on such a small display. The wide aperture performance is otherwise pretty great. I finally caved and ordered the Viltrox adapter today, though. There are actually two choices: the EF-M1, which is just ...

Pretty much the same config here. For a typical number of residential users, the ERX and any Unifi AP can get you to commercial-grade performance for under $200 every time. The ERX has a web utility same as any other router. For the AP, you'll need to install a PC program or load the Unifi app onto ...

Often once Windows 10 is installed on any system with an EFI BIOS, all other possible boot devices get buried beneath the Windows startup routine, UNLESS you enter the BIOS config and elevate the priority of another device.
