i love my brother all in one too. (mfc-7860dw). cheap toner, you can even "reset the counter" by pressing a few keys and print paper until it fades to white (i was trying to use Fade To Black somewhere but meh.. ) be wary of some of their printer if you want to print natively from IOS. Som...

i bought a 2600k almost at launch, had been running a custom loop as well since day one but never bothered to overclock. only a few months ago i decided to beat the thing like it owed me money.. the difference is marginal and barely noticed the difference outside of synthetic benchmarks. it is paire...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfDZixZFzms unfortunatly it is pretty common here. it seems like people forget how to drive in the snow/ice and that they have to learn every year. i mean we have been coverered in snow/ice for 6 months a year for the last 10,000 years or so... this particular stretc...

All that said, I'd always insist that any "must have" data be made into a proper backup with an off-line copy stored in a fire-proof safe. Could automate that too, except the physical action of putting it into the safe  if her job *depends* on those files, multiple copie taken multi...

i'm not sure about all the providers, but most of them will provide some form of ISP controlled ONT and provide only ethernet on the premise.

M'a Bell up here works that way.

first let me start with CONGRATULATIONS!!!! as a very good friend of mine who once said to me (he's a father of two little nuclear powered deamons) - don't listen to the advice of others. (not really but you will understand) thats the only advice i can give you. you will see that everyone around you...

Re: Compressing Data to Save Space

is virtualization an option?

we had 2 legacy app servers running windows 2003 that were running out of space (old proprietary applications that just grows overtime with no way to purge any of the old stuff). we ended up virtualizing them so we could increase the size of the disk pretty easily.

An OS may not make sense but there may be a time it will. Take your parents for instance, if all they use their computer for is for email and to surf the web why would they pay for a full fledged OS? Why would they ever need one? i agree, and this is where i believe that "alternative" OS'...

Re: Don't wanna wait for Zen - going Skylake. Sanity check?

I may have fallen in love with that grey Phantek, no joke. that's actually the one i have. i like the clean look of it. no 5 1/2 bays or anything that can compromise the clean sleek look of the front. i crammed a 360mm rad, an extended-atx board and a 140mm EK-res inside and it just looks gorgeous :)

Re: Don't wanna wait for Zen - going Skylake. Sanity check?

for cases, i've always liked the no-nonsense design of Fractal Design's cases. since you said you don't want jet black it may not appeal to you. i also recently purchased a Phantek Eclipse P400 and i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. also they are faily cheap (price) enclosures.

hope it helps.

Yep - I know its overkill. SPDIF a must. Lesser, older components fine too. if SPDIF is a must, regardless of O/S, i will have to go with The Egg's suggestion of a raspberry pi2 with a Digi+ addon (https://www.hifiberry.com/digiplus/) you will have all you want (hardware wise) for about a hundred b...

just to rule out anything on the network pushing this to your computer, just run a network capture (wireshark or,tcpdump) with a dhcp/bootp filter. ive had this at a friends place where he had a software sometimes send an ip to some devices and would screw up the networking big time but only "s...
