Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Occasionally I consider how much time I spend denying things, mostly on my phone. Removing notifications I don't want, filtering spam, trying to quickly click through the app startup pages telling you about the new pointless irrelevant feature. Here is another thing that fits that bill. Although the...

Re: Winter weather

Did you end up making it somewhere safe? They had blizzard conditions in western MN. So, even if there wasn't an accident, the roads would have still been closed. I heard on the radio that they pulled the plows in some areas because of safety, there just wasn't the visibility. Also, over a foot in ...

Re: Winter weather

Well i'm in a pickle. I'm west of minneapolis and it's shut down due to an accident so i'm stuck at a rest area. The roads also are bad enough that i can't legally drive any more. The truck stop i was planning to get fuel at is about 40 miles away, and so i only have 3/8 of a tank to keep me warm. H...

Re: Winter weather

Generally speaking, dot doesn't bother with salt 10-15f or below, because it doesn't work that well. If I remember right from my college days, the best I could do starting with water and mixing a saturated salt solution was -8f. At that point, if you're going to do anything you could put down that t...

Re: Winter weather

By the will of Bob, today's thaw actually left me an ice-free path from my usual parking spot in the driveway to the garage. When I left this AM, I had to use an ice pick to help me to my car as I shuffled 2 feet, reset the pick, lather/rinse/repeat, until I got across what was then a completely ic...

Re: 2015 MBP battery issue

Actually I definitely won't be driving an electric vehicle since I don't have a car. The batteries will definitely fail, that is unavoidable. The frequency is debatable, as that was a voluntary survey and didn't allow for repeat failures in the category. Secondly, did you notice the median miles. On...

Re: 2015 MBP battery issue

There's not much you can do about the battery failure really. There's no magic bullet of money that prevents the inevitable failure. The puff is from the electrolyte breaking down and when you consider that draining it too low or fast, charging it too high or fast, keeping it with too little or too ...

Re: Winter weather

This wasn't good for trucking. It was so bad the fuel trucks were unable to run in most of Iowa at least. Luckily I've been warm in Texas and Arkansas the whole time but heading that way. Also, it it got much colder gas vehicles were going to be at risk too. Gasoline starts freezing around-40f.

There's a small chance that while working on my thermostat...something..might possibly have happened that made me think its a good idea to use extended connectors with filled blocks to prevent reverse polarity hookups. A good day in trucking is a day in which nothing meaningful happens. Today was not one of those days. Trailer needed repairs since air was coming out from the back of a fitting. And on the other side, this weather makes it much easier for me to bulk up and cook extra rice for the week. I can cool it much faster for the peltier cooler and if I really wanted I could throw bags of rice in the trailer box and let it stay frozen.

Google maps uses location data for traffic, and probably other things
In fact it will list how many times I've parked at a given Walmart.

Although, the idea of living IN a big and/or dense city is growing on me. Being able to ditch the car for everyday thing...
