Re: TR Website SSL Issue in Firefox

The Qualys tester is the one I regularly use to see if anything's amiss. My only knock against it is that it deducts from your score if you allow weak ciphers, but if you don't do that, you can't support older browsers.

Re: TR Website SSL Issue in Firefox

Don't get me started on the topic of how difficult it is to find a STRAIGHTFORWARD, and UPDATED list of things to do to implement good HTTPS, and with the common pitfalls and misconceptions. The fact that every browser supports different aspects of HTTPS in a slightly different way, and that webserv...

Re: TR Website SSL Issue in Firefox

Okay guys, this is fixed, I think. And the fix makes no sense. The problem was with the certificate's OCSP stapling check failing. Couldn't pin down the cause because the GoDaddy OCSP servers appeared reachable. Eventually tried changing the certificate's CA bundle to a simpler one as a test, and it...

Re: Half FPS vs Gaming Site's I7 4790 with GTX 1070 WHY?

You already double-checked that your RAM is in dual-channel mode, as other posters have pointed out? That'll cut the CPU's performance neatly in half in many situations.

Re: A modern vacuum tube

You might want to check out a couple videos on the Amp1. Thomas Blug is an amp designer by trade, and if I remember correctly, he basically bought an entire factory's worth of those tubes which (again, IIRC) are Russian-made for military purposes.

Re: A modern vacuum tube

Ah, I see the confusion. The "nanotube" inside the Bluguitar Amp1 can push 100W. The Korg Nutube is designed for preamps, though. I figure that we're going to see TinyTubes across the entire power spectrum, assuming that the degree of audiophilia nervosa isn't too high.

Re: A modern vacuum tube

@Ned: correct, but I think it's simply a matter of time and using more TinyTubes (I called it). The things are so small and consequentially easier to use that the sky's the limit. I think the major roadblock, as with literally anything about sound, is going to be a psychological, not a practical one.

Re: A modern vacuum tube

I know, I'm just teasing. The problem I see is that to put it bluntly, guitarists are as bad as audiophiles. It doesn't have a big, hot, glowing glass bottle, so no matter if a Nano/Nutube does exactly the same thing , an amp using it never be "a real tube amp." Funny how that tune changes...

Re: A modern vacuum tube

Oh, you folks are way too late to the game :) The "nutube" or "nanotube" already found its way into guitar amplifiers. First here's the BluGuitar Amp1 , designed by Thomas Blug. A 100-W tube head in the dimensions of a couple compact pedals. Then there's Vox, who has an entire li...

Re: Which hair dryer do you use?

Long-haired gerbil here. I'm going to bite. TLDR: towel for most of it, have a blow-dryer with a moderately high-heat / low-speed setting. A "cool shot" button is handy too. Towel-dry most of it. Avoid "mashing" your hair too much. I usually just hang my head to the front/side so...

Another vote for a Synology unit. I don't know what GamersNexus' beef was, but if the unit was under warranty then it gets repaired. Their boxes are no different in that regard from other prebuilt NAS units.

For what it's worth, the marble work will be more sculpting tiles / blocks than outright cutting them.

What angle grinder wattage for marble work?

This should be a simple question/answer for the ever-knowing TR forums gerbils. Girlfriend needs a compact angle grinder for her art studies. The biggest power-related requirement for it is that it should be able to cut marble and steel. So, what wattage should we be looking for? We're currently loo...

Re: 16GB iPhone SE - broken NAND? Will convert to Samsung

Thanks everyone, that was definitely helpful. Why not simply connect to the PC, use iTunes' backup function to save data and settings, and then do a full phone restore? That'll almost certainly fix whatever problem, plus it'll install the latest iOS anyway. Because that would require installing and...

Re: Air conditioner unit making annoying bubbling noise

I assume you meant "where." It's hard to tell where the exact noise is, but I can tell it's inside the house, not outside. The outside piping goes inside through the wall at about chest height and run upwards until they meet the indoor unit in its right side. The noise comes from somewhere...
