Re: Clicky HDD. Any chance it's normal?

I think I've never not seen or seen and haven't remembered it, but not both, a better or equal and not worse use of not double negative. You mean verify your backups & RMA. You are already backup up, right? Generally, but I have to sync as it changes daily. But anyway it's going to be a pain to...

Re: Dual Fax

The daily spam trap summaries I get from our third-part filtering service still contain attempts to spoof various scan-to-email and fax-to-email file types. Well of course. That's because the demographic who still use fax machines are the ripest targets for the scammers. Let's face it, fax has been...

Re: How bad is Windows 10 Really?

So is Windows 10 anywhere as bad as people been saying it is? Which people? Windows 10 isn't perfect but then again no OS is perfect. Things I don't like... The UI seems to lag sometimes, especially the start menu. The update process can be irritating sometimes. Aside from that... it's actually rem...

Debateable, but the hyperspace attack does not break any rules, and you can read about how right here in this thread! (Short version, this was a crazy and stupid idea that only worked because the good guys were desperate and out of options.) Oh, so they weren't desperate during the other pivotal mo...

Re: Earbud Replacement Suggestion

Sennheiser MX 375. You can get a pair for around $20 They aren't going to give you the same sound quality as a $100+ pair of earbuds, but you're skiing. They don't have any of that fancy ear placement stuff - and they don't create a tight seal (they use disposable foam covers) so you can still hear ...

What should have happened was a huge ball of fire which may or may not have destroyed the shield around the starkiller base temporarily or permanently while the Falcon would have fell apart. Y'know, I'm not trying to disprove the possibility of FTL missiles. I'm only trying to explain why--if they do exist in SW--they are very rare, and why the First Order were not expecting such an attack. The thing is, the FO commander seemed to have figured out really quickly what she was up to once...

Dude, the only part of your post that wasn't opinion was the part where you linked to sites that compiled other people's opinions. We're discussing the merits of a work of fiction; it's by definition opinion. So maybe turn down the pretense just a bit, eh? Wrong, again. I posted facts: revievs, Luk...

Re: STAR WARS TIME! - Spoiler Lock Lifted

The thing about hyperspace in SW, is that according to Han, it ain't like dusting crops, and takes a relatively long times for calculations lest you bring yourself into a supernova and that would end your trip fast... Then we see the hyperspace itself. It's like a hole with whirlpool effect at the ...

Re: STAR WARS TIME! - Spoiler Lock Lifted

It'd be one thing if Luke had been prominent in VII but he wasn't - he was barely present until the last few seconds. Character continuity is based on what the characters actually do on screen, or what they're alluded to be doing... you can't reasonably expect continuity with what one director inte...

Re: STAR WARS TIME! - Spoiler Lock Lifted

VIII is just garbage, boring, broken beyond fixing, poorly written and executed, the new directìon of the characters seems to be made just for the sake of it without continuity, it just doesn't feel a SW movie. To you. Doesn't feel like a SW movie to you . The difference is subtle, but kind of impo...

This surprises me as much as anyone else; Disney should have been a good steward of the franchise since it likes money and is typically competent if not great at filmmaking. Disney does love money and that seems to be the kind of movie that it made. It's the hardcore SW fans I know that didn't like...

OK I'm wondering why there is a sport's section on a geek site? Because some geeks like sports. I guess this is hardware... We have a 32-bottle wine fridge from Wine Enthusiast... after a brief power outage, it keeps beeping incessantly - really rapid beeps - and the temperature displays are just flashing "88" - my guess is that some circuit board didn't respond well to the outage. D...

I've seen something similar caused by a security product. If you have any IPS/IDS/antivirus applications, try removing or reinstalling them. This could apply to anything that installs I/O filter drivers, so monitoring and backup applications could also cause a hang on disk access. These are the eas...
