Re: Is Microsoft bad at math?

Not really a Microsoft problem... it's just as bad in Linux and iOS - even worse in some cases. It's one of those things that sounds like it ought to be easy but turns out to be really difficult to actually do. It tends to be better for very large files - especially if there's only one - or in other...

Re: Why are game consoles so efficient??

Coding to a single bare metal design means you can tweak everything to be *perfect* on that one platform and you can take advantage of every low level access point into the hardware that is available. Time consuming, but actually possible on one platform. This. A good friend of mine is a coder who ...

Re: What are you playing right now?

Just finished Assassins Creed:Origins last night. All in all really enjoyed it... the visuals are amazing. One weird thing - and I am wondering if this was by design or a bug, so am throwing it out here to see if anyone else experienced the same thing... spoiler just in case: It started with the que...

You only need 39-40 digits of Pi to calculate the circumference of the universe to an accuracy of the diameter of a hydrogen atom. Frikkin' NASA just eyeballing stuff to the nearest hydrogen atom... And people wonder why their funding gets cut at every drop of the hat... Exactly. They already know ...

Re: MCU

Part way through the movie, she leans over and apologizes for choosing the movie. Personally, I wasn't really that disappointed, as I expected mediocrity to begin with. I would consider this to be one of the weakest MCU movies to come out, not as bad as Thor 2, but maybe something a bit worse than ...

Overkill - The Wings Of War

These guys have been one of my go-to bands since the 80's - just raw, aggressive, in your face thrash metal... Blitz is starting to show his age on vocals a bit.

if the range is long enough I though that these were a good idea for adding music to another room. I did find the one demo I saw in store a little tinny. Yeah, same here... they sound like they'd be okay if your only goal is to get some background music into a room, but don't expect much in terms o...

Probably to avoid minor scratches and injuries from contaminating the floor with blood, which would require nanny-state cleanup squads to interrupt the flow of the tournament. Re: Front Page Poll Proposal: Do you even RGB bro?

Not even cables are immune from this crap... work got me a new Dell laptop, and it comes with a docking station that connects via USB-C... there is a little LED on the plug that is amazingly bright for how small it is; to the point where it's actually kinda blinding. I can understand why it's useful...

Re: What are you playing right now?

It's interesting to me how a sequel can look and feel just like the original without retaining any of the original's "soul." I think that the story of HR was really compelling and MD just feels boring in comparison. On top of that, I remember the levels being a lot interesting in HR. A wh...

I've been playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about this game that makes it nowhere near as good as Human Revolution. I'm about 5-10 hours in and seriously considering abandoning it. Did anyone play the whole way through this one? Is it worth s...

It was fun to watch a ferret encounter my sisters cat. Cat initially thinks its a badass. But every pounce ends with a poke in the cats butt. Pretty soon cat is trying to escape and everafter looks very carefully before entering and crossing the room. That's a typical outcome. Odds are the cat was ...

Soen - Lotus (2019) Soen's debut Cognitive (2012) was very good, but also overtly derivative of Tool. With each subsequent album they have evolved a little, refined their approach, and increasingly stepped out of Tool's shadow to find their own voice. On this, their fourth album, everything really ...

Ghost - Meliora Just got into these guys recently... they're pretty good musically... nothing overly fancy, just good, solid rock played nice and tight. Lyrically I think they're trying a bit too hard to be "satanic" and at times it just starts to sound silly; I'd be curious to hear what t...

Factory reset didn't work, I think because it reset to 12.1.1 - they must have updated the reset point. Assassins Creed: Origins on PS4. That's generous. The ruling the officials made after their own screw-up was correct - but that neither negates nor excuses the fact that they screwed up. That was a catch - he caught the ball, took three steps with it after catching it - then fumbled. The ruling was that since neither team recovere...

You might want to try a lighter-weight distro (like say Xubuntu or Lubuntu) if they meet your needs. Staying with one of the Ubuntu derivatives will probably be easier, since you're already familiar with Mint. While I'm a fan of Kubuntu, it is likely a step in the wrong direction for this system as...
