I doubt it'll able to miniaturize as much though. The magical smoke has been used up. ;)

Re: Think Moore's law is dead? WRONG

"Moore's Law" has already been been invalidated. It is just trying to shift goalposts around to keep the meme alive. We are reaching the physical and economical limits of straight miniaturization with semiconductors. I doubt we'll find an alternative that will fare as well. The game just s...

Re: Need Advice On An Overdue System Upgrade.

You might want to upgrade sooner than later. Word on the block is that TSMC's 7nm process is experiencing unexpected demand and limited supplies. They will inevitability be price hikes for current AMD SKUs. It is unlikely demand will alleviate on Intel side.

Re: AMD Zen 2: Ryzen 3000 series

Not surprise at all. New nodes almost always have production issues within the first few years of life. At least TSMC's 7nm process is producing viable product(s) unlike Intel's 10nm process so far (only prototypes and paper launches). Expect prices hikes in 2020 from both camps on the desktop/lapto...

I did it with my original Q6600 installation. I immediately pondered why idle temperature was way above ambient (~50C) with the first start-up. I figured it was poor mounting but when I was re-seating the heatsink. I'd immediately noticed that the plastic cover was still on the heatspreader.

If you want to donate it then you might want to DBAN it if the HDD contain anything sensitive in its lifetime.

Older flash memory is able to hold its data for a couple of year in cold storage. I'm not sure how current generation will fare and there is insufficient data on the matter.

Q3-Q4 2020, Nvidia still needs to move their Pascal and Turing stock. There's no pressure to rush things despite tension coming from Navi.

Re: Best RAM for my build

Ryzen 5 3600 and Core i5 9400 are more up to the task of feeding 2080Ti at 1440. Just get a decent pair 8GiB of DDR4-3000/3200 DIMMs and are you golden. Spending more on faster memory yields diminishing returns unless you intend on doing hard-core overclocking. Fortunately, DDR4 prices have finally ...

Re: Zen 2 Threadripper talk and news (rumors too)

I suspect Threadripper 3 will come flavors of 4, 6 and 8 active chiplets. Their base clockspeed will be comparable to the current Zen2-based Ryzens. The boost speed might be a little better but nothing earth-shattering. 64-core SKU will effectively be 2990WX's successor but will probably suffer from...

Blacklight bleed will always be a problem with any LCD panel due to the nature on how they work. It is a matter of how much you are willing to tolerate.

Subscription-based models have always been the golden goose that professional software vendors have been pushing for. The logistics for it with the majority of potential customers made it economically unfeasible until last decade. Retail software's days have been numbered.

AMD branded GPUs are just Sapphires (Holdover from ATI-era). They are always reference cards so no third-party coolings or other bells/whistles.

It is the K8 Operton all over again. AMD has very compelling options in 1P/2P market if your organization is scheduled for an upgrade/overhaul. Intel doesn't have a viable competitor at current price/performance ranges and will likely not have one until 2021-2022. The only way for Intel to fight it ...

Re: PCIe 4.0 boosts SSD sequential performance

AMD is just trying to prevent people from running into data corruption /stability issues when attempting to force PCIE 4.0 mode on older pre-5xx era boards. There's a good chance some of them don't have proper tracings and laying that is necessary for reliable PCIe 4.0 mode. PCIe 4.0 is really just ...

It wasn't long after that cases started with the power supply in the bottom and 120mm fans (though we can probably thank the P4 for the rapid cooling evolution). Cough (BTX), cough. BTX had many good ideas. It is too that it put the DIMM slots too far away from the CPU which is why Intel had to axe...
